It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ed McCoy on June 7, 2026, at his cherished home in Charlotte, NC. Born on March 30, 1947, to Ed and Eunice McCoy, Ed was a beacon of warmth, generosity, and adventure throughout his 79 years of life. A proud graduate of Myers Park High School, Ed carried with him a lifelong curiosity and passion for learning. Though details of his college education remain a mystery, his life was a testament to the importance of experience and exploration. Ed began his career at McCoy Oil, working alongside his family in their well-loved business. For over 40 years, he collaborated with his brothers in the billboard industry, leaving a lasting mark on the landscape and in the hearts of those he worked with. Ed also showcased his entrepreneurial spirit through his efforts in property design and sales, always seeking new challenges and opportunities. A man of many passions, Ed was an avid traveler, a trait he lovingly inherited from his mother, Eunice. His adventures took him from the majestic heights of Mount Kilimanjaro to the icy expanse of the North Pole, where he journeyed aboard an icebreaker boat. These experiences enriched his life and those he shared them with, painting vibrant stories that will echo through the generations. Ed was not only a traveler of the world but also of the heart. Known for his magnanimous spirit, he delighted in giving special gifts and commemorating the milestones of others. His home was a testament to his love for family, adorned with photos of his beloved nieces, nephews, younger cousins, and God-children. A frequent patron of the YMCA, Ed formed countless friendships within its welcoming walls. His involvement in other organizations remains a mystery, yet his impact was undoubtedly felt by many. He was a man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. Ed is survived by his loving brothers, Gary McCoy and his wife Cathy, and Michael McCoy and his wife Luanne. His legacy continues through his cherished nephews and nieces: Laura Goodyear, Patrick and Caty McCoy, Ian McCoy, and Dylan McCoy and his wife. He is predeceased by his devoted parents, Ed and Eunice McCoy, whose love and guidance shaped the remarkable man he became. A service to honor Ed's life will be held at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the YMCA or Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, in recognition of the communities that brought Ed so much joy and companionship. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Ed's friends, whose unwavering support and kindness during his final months were a testament to the profound friendships he cultivated throughout his life.
