In loving memory of Dwight Watkins Sr., who was born on January 24, 1957, in East Patchogue, New York, and peacefully left this world on October 29, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family in the comfort of a hospital. Dwight's journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Dwight was the cherished son of Mary Ruth Durham, who preceded him in death alongside his beloved sister, Barbra Jean Brame. He is deeply mourned by his wife, Lisa Watkins, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since March 11, 1978. Together, they created a loving and nurturing home for their three children: Sheniqua Barnes (David), Dwight Watkins Jr. (Latoya), and Raynelle Simmons (Keenan). Dwight's legacy extends through his dear grandchildren, Dwight A. Watkins, Sariyea Watkins , Tantania Barnes, Taliyah Barnes, and Kymani Simmons five wonderful grandchildren. His presence will also be missed by his four great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Dwight was a proud graduate of Bellport High School and a dedicated U.S. Army veteran, who went on to work at Kings Park for nearly two decades. Even after retirement, his love for work never waned, and he found fulfillment in various roles throughout his life. An avid baseball fan, Dwight's heart beat in sync with the New York Mets, and he cherished every moment he spent watching their games, often accompanied by the youthful company of his grandchildren. Family was the cornerstone of Dwight’s life. His siblings, Jesse Watkins, Gary Watkins, Chris Franklin, and Randy James, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and close family friends, formed a close-knit circle of love and support. Dwight's weekly movie outings with his grandchildren were a testament to the special bond he shared with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever. A service to honor Dwight’s life will be held on November 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at New Bethel, located at 889 Station Road. As we gather to celebrate his life, we remember Dwight as a man of integrity, warmth, and kindness, whose legacy will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Dwight's memory, as a way to continue his spirit of generosity and love.
