Thief River Falls, MN — It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Duaine Espeseth. Duaine departed this world peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the age of 79, embraced by the love of his family, just as he had lived his life—surrounded by those he cherished most.
Born on March 19, 1947, in the humble town of Thief River Falls, MN, Duaine was the cherished son of Bobby Jo and Myrtle Olson. From a young age, Duaine's life was imbued with a sense of purpose and faith, foundations laid by his loving parents and fortified by his enduring commitment to God as a Christian Lutheran minister.
At the tender age of 18, Duaine married the love of his life, Hope. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning decades filled with shared laughter, unwavering support, and an unyielding devotion that served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their daughter, Ila, who became the light of their lives.
Duaine was blessed with five grandchildren—Griffin, Taylor, Ann, Jacob, and Joe—each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. His bond with them was profound, as he imparted life lessons, shared countless stories, and created cherished memories that they will carry forward in their hearts. He is also survived by his brother, Jerald Espeseth, who remained a steadfast presence throughout his life.
A man of many talents, Duaine was an avid woodworker, crafting everything from sturdy bookcases to graceful canoes with a loving touch and meticulous care. His skilled hands and creative spirit left an indelible mark, not just on the objects he crafted, but on the lives he touched with his generous heart. Duaine's love for the outdoors led him to the thrill of fishing and hunting, pastimes that allowed him to revel in the splendor of nature and find peace in its quiet beauty.
Duaine's dedication to his community was unwavering; he was especially passionate about mentoring and guiding the youth through church programs, where his wisdom, kindness, and faith touched countless young hearts, leaving a legacy of hope and inspiration.
Upon retirement, Duaine found solace and contentment in the simple pleasures of farm life, tending to his beloved goats, and witnessing the daily miracles of sunrises and sunsets—a testament to his appreciation for the beauty in everyday moments.
As his family lovingly reflects, "Forever in our hearts," Duaine's spirit lives on in the countless lives he enriched, the love he so freely gave, and the faith he so steadfastly upheld. His gentle presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the local church youth programs in memory of Duaine's enduring legacy of faith, love, and service.
A celebration of Duaine's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor a man who lived with grace, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
