Dru Ellis

Drusilla Bethea Ellis passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 18, 1954, in San Antonio, Dru truly lived a Christ centered life filled with faith, grace and kindness, and was affectionately referred to as the family Saint. Dru was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Dorothy Ellis. She is survived by her brothers Clay, Peter and wife Susan, her sister Laurie, and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory dear. Dru loved her early life traveling and living abroad with her family in Spain, Jordan, Antigua, Barbados and Columbia and recounting the many stories and adventures that entailed. Including a family favorite of being at a Bedouin wedding feast in Petra when a young Bedouin asked her dad if he could buy her! Her brothers were greatly disappointed when dad said no as they were certain they’d at least get a camel out of the deal. Dru graduated from Zaragoza High School in Zaragoza, Spain, and went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin. Dru began her career as a teacher in a small Christian school in Gilroy, California. Her faith then led her to spend 20 years with Campus Crusade for Christ, spreading messages of Jesus through events such as the National Day of Prayer. Later she worked as a tutor at Pat Neff Middle School, where she continued to inspire and enlighten those around her. For years Dru was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio, where her voice graced the choir, and her Spanish-speaking skills brought the Spanish service to life through translation. It was her faith and love of Jesus that really defined her life though. Jesus was her guiding light, instilling in her a serene strength and a perpetually bright outlook on life. Dru was known for her listening heart drawing others into the warmth of God's presence. Her laughter filled family gatherings with joy, especially at Peter's house, where stories and jokes shared by her nephews created bonds that will last a lifetime. Her special connection with her niece, Catherine Ellis, was marked by shared moments watching movies, coloring, and reading together, memories that Catherine will cherish forever. A private funeral service will be held on September 5, 2026, honoring Dru's wishes. The family extends their deep gratitude to Bernie Henderson and Janie Sanchez for the compassionate care they provided to Dru in her final days, offering love and prayers as they attended to her needs with tenderness. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dru's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting the spirit of giving that Dru embodied throughout her life.
