May 2, 1973 — March 8, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Drew Alan Byington, who left us unexpectedly in the early morning hours of March 8th, 2026, at the age of 52, with his beloved wife, Elisabeth, and son, Donald, by his side. Drew was born on May 2, 1973, in Chubbuck, Idaho, and his life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and exploration. Drew was the cherished son of Donna and Gary Byington and was raised in a large, close-knit family. He is predeceased by his loving grandmother and his two brothers, Dean and Chord, who he has now joined in the afterlife. Drew is survived by his devoted wife, Elisabeth, his son Donald, his two daughters, Addison and Brooke, as well as his parents, Gary and Donna, and his three younger siblings, Phillip, Maja, and Marci. Drew's life was a rich journey filled with passion and commitment. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1991 and went on to earn a Bachelor's in Science from Idaho State University in 2005. Before embarking on his career as a dedicated Biology Teacher, Drew served his country with honor. At the tender age of 17, he signed up for the Army, where he specialized in Field Artillery and Communications Electronics, serving with distinction in Germany from 1992 to 1995. He was honorably discharged in December 1995, having earned the National Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbons. Drew's professional life was marked by his enthusiasm for teaching and a profound love for the natural world. As a high school biology teacher, he inspired countless students and was proud of his environmental efforts, particularly the restoration of a local waterway. His dedication extended beyond the classroom, as he also assisted in coaching high school football and was especially proud of nurturing a talented young golfer. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Edwardo's Restaurant and Baja Grill, where he poured his heart into creating a welcoming and delightful dining experience. Between his teaching and restaurant ventures, Drew also worked as a bartender and in time-share sales, showcasing his diverse talents and insatiable curiosity. Drew's life was also enriched by his love for the great outdoors. Whether hiking with his daughters or crabbing with his brother Dean, he found peace and joy in nature. A skilled fisherman with an eye for rare stones and fossils, Drew's hobbies were as varied as his interests. His woodworking skills were evident in the stunning jewelry case he crafted for Elisabeth, a piece she will cherish forever. As a husband and father, Drew was unmatched in his devotion. He found unexpected love with his daughters from his first marriage to Tracy, and later, immense joy in raising sons with Elisabeth. His romantic spirit was ever-present, from their first date on a rooftop to the many love notes he left for Elisabeth. He was a guiding light and a source of strength for his family, and his absence leaves a profound void. Drew's warmth and humor endeared him to many. His quick wit and open heart made him a beloved friend and confidant. He was the first to lend a hand, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life was a testament to his character. His friends and family, while grieving his untimely departure, are comforted by the rich legacy he leaves behind. A service to celebrate Drew's life will be held on May 8, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Willamette National Cemetery, 118000 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Happy Valley, OR 97086.
