Dr. Nevin W. Cope
January 18, 1931 — September 11, 2026
Dr. Nevin W. Cope, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 18, 1931, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Nevin lived a life rich in generosity, dedication, and love.
Nevin was the son of Harry and Lyle Cope, and stepson of Verna Cope. From a young age, he exhibited a keen interest in learning and a profound sense of duty, which he carried throughout his life. His academic journey began at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, where he earned his B.S. He earned his DDS degree from Temple Dental School, Philadelphia, PA in 1956. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Nevin served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, in the Dental Department at Cherry Point, NC.
For over four decades, from 1958 to 2002, Nevin ran a successful dental practice in Fogelsville and Orefield, PA. He also served a term as President of the Lehigh Valley Dental Society, and was deeply respected by his peers.
Nevin's life was enriched by his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. A Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow, a recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, and the Distinguished Scouter Award, he inspired countless young scouts with his leadership and commitment to the principles of scouting. He was on the BOD for the Boy Scout Fogelsville Group of Citizens for many years. He was a long-standing member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Fogelsville, a member of the Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company as well as a free and accepted Mason.
Beyond his professional and community endeavors, Nevin was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, camping, canoeing, tending to his apple orchards, vegetable gardens and beehives. He also enjoyed woodworking, crafting pieces that his family will treasure for generations.
Nevin is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Bjork), of 74 years, his four children: David Cope (Liz), Karen Konapelsky (Mark), Dr. Dana Cope (Linda), and Ronald Cope (Kelly Jo), as well as step-sister, Betty Brandt. He was preceded in death by siblings Evelyn Weidner, Robert Cope, Janice Yorgey and step-brother William Weisel. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his beloved grandson, Jeb Albright. He had many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Sunday, October 11, from 2:00-5:00 at Boy Scout Troop 72 Camp Spirit, 1718 Mulberry Rd., Fogelsville, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Nevin's memory to Group of Citizens for Troop 72 and Pack 72, P.O. Box 72, Fogelsville, PA, 18051.
Dr. Nevin W. Cope's life was a testament to the power of commitment, family, and community. His final gift was to donate his body to science through Anatomy Gifts and Registry. His memory will forever be a guiding light for those who knew and loved him.
