Dr. Larry Darnell Wilson

January 26, 1953 — September 19, 2026

Dr. Larry Darnell Wilson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and esteemed physician, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026. Born on January 26, 1953, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Larry lived a life of dedication, compassion, and service—both to his family and the many communities he touched through his work in medicine and his love of Jesus Christ. Larry's academic journey was marked by excellence and determination. He graduated with honors from Langston University with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine before earning his Doctor of Medicine from Oklahoma University. His medical career began earnestly at Texas Tech College of Medicine in Amarillo, Texas, where he completed a Family Medicine residency and served as Chief Resident. Larry's passion for healing and service led him to open the King’s Daughter Clinic in Killeen, Texas, and later to practice at Austin Regional Clinic. Transitioning into Occupational Medicine, he contributed greatly at Concentra Medical Center before becoming the Medical Director at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center. He retired from the Employee Retirement System of Texas in August 2026, still caring for patience in a non-clinical setting. Larry's influence extended beyond his medical practice; he was a respected member of the Board of Directors for the Clinical Wellness Group and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. And while actively pursuing his love of medicine, he continued to follow his desire to serve the Lord. Larry received an Associates degree in Bible and Theology, and he was an active member of Grant Crosswork Community Church where he taught Sunday School, and was secretary of the Lay Organization. Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. Psalms 119:2 Larry was the cherished son of the late Lou Ella Wilson and Roy Hardman. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Felton Charles Wilson and Keith Beverly, and his sister Kallie Mae Landrum. His legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Cherie and their children Sydney and Greyson Wilson, his daughters LaTasha Mayberry of Raleigh North Carolina and Terrica Newby (Roger), and his son Larry Chandler, as well as his two adored grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Brenda Wilson, Gail Goldsmith (Frank), Rose Hardwick (Stacy), Renee Brown (Steven) all of Tulsa Oklahoma, and his brother Roy Benny Hardman (Tracy) of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving family members and friends. A celebration of Larry's life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Grant Crosswork Community Church, located at 1701 Kramer Lane, Austin, TX 78758. The family deeply appreciates the support and prayers extended by friends, colleagues, and the community during this time of loss. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Fu and the staff of Texas Oncology, Ascension Seton Cedar Park Hospital outpatient staff, Austin Palliative Care, and all who assisted Larry in his final days. And God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen 1 Peter 5:10-11 In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dr. Larry Wilson may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, or the Colon Cancer Coalition. The family of Dr. Larry Wilson extends their sincerest appreciation for all expressions of love, support, and condolences. May the Lord bless and keep each of you in His care.
