Douglas O. Blackburn, born on December 16, 1941, in Colonial Heights, Virginia, peacefully passed away at his home on July 22, 2026, at the age of 84. Douglas's life was a testament to love, faith, and service, and his presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Douglas was the beloved husband of Ruth for 65 remarkable years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their journey was blessed with two children, Tammy Powell (Stephen) and Tony Blackburn, who carry forward their father’s legacy of kindness and community. Douglas was also a proud grandfather to Ashley, Kelli, and Hayden, and his joy only grew with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Alexis and Trinity, and his great-great-grandchildren, Aryah and Emari. Throughout his life, Douglas was a dedicated member of Thrive Church, previously known as Courts of Praise and Bellwood Pentecostal. He was a man of deep faith, and his commitment to his church was evident through the numerous roles he held over the years. From Sunday School teacher to Youth Leader, Greeter, Children's Church Leader, and member of the Deacon board and sound board team, Douglas was always ready to serve wherever he was needed. His devotion to sharing the teachings of the Bible and the love of Jesus touched countless lives. Douglas found joy in sports, particularly in playing and coaching softball. He also cherished time spent with friends on the tennis courts and golf courses. These activities not only brought him happiness but also strengthened the bonds he shared with those around him. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the hospice nursing staff for their compassionate care during Douglas's final days. A special note of gratitude goes to Derek Scarbrough for his faithful friendship, frequent visits, and the comfort he provided through his generous support and provisions during this challenging time. In honor of Douglas’s memory, his family suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, continuing his legacy of generosity and kindness. Douglas O. Blackburn’s life was a beacon of love and faith, and his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
