Douglas McArthur Gosey

It is with profound sadness and enduring love that we announce the passing of Douglas McArthur Gosey, who left this world on July 18, 2026, at the age of 65. Douglas was born on April 2, 1961, in the close-knit community of Many, Louisiana. He was the cherished son of Sylvia Ann Gosey and Robert Douglas Gosey, who preceded him in death, alongside his brothers Smokey, Doc, and Larry Gosey; Raymond, Roy, and June Alexander; sisters Freddie Mae Scott and Helen Williams; and his beloved son, Douglas Marquis Hudson. Douglas's life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and adventure. Raised in a devout Christian home, he was nurtured by the values and teachings of Bethel Baptist Church, where his faith took root and flourished. His early education at Many Jr High and Many High School paved the way for his journey into the Job Corps, where he not only completed his high school education but also set the stage for his future endeavors. His strong work ethic and determination led him to a career offshore, where he worked diligently for many years. Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Douglas was a man of integrity, always speaking his mind with honesty and conviction. His love for the great outdoors was well-known among family and friends, and he took great joy in hunting and fishing, often sharing stories of his adventures with those around him. Douglas is survived by his devoted fiancée, Daphne Garner of Shreveport, LA, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Rodney Garner of Shreveport, LA; Willie Lee Hudson of Zwolle, LA; Jayden Shiers of Natchez, LA; Sylvia M. Garner of Leesville, LA; and Shajuana Hudson of Zwolle, LA. His family tree continues to grow with 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Preston (Michelle) of Lake Havasu, AZ, Calvin Preston of Lawrence, MA, and Bobbie Gosey of Houston, TX; and his sisters, Alice Hawkins of Douglasville, GA, and Charlotte (John) Woods of Fresno, TX. The love and support from a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends will undoubtedly continue to reflect his enduring spirit. A service to honor and celebrate Douglas's life will be held on July 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1095W Georgia Avenue, Many, LA 71449. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time, particularly for the prayers and kind expressions of sympathy that have been a source of comfort and strength. Though our hearts are heavy, we find solace in the knowledge that God moves in His own way and on His own schedule. We trust in His wisdom and are comforted by the thought that Douglas is now at peace, embraced by the love of those who have gone before him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Douglas's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to his generous spirit and unwavering faith.
