In Loving Memory

Douglas Lee Benning
July 11, 1959 — October 21, 2026
Douglas Benning, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 21, 2026, after facing an extended illness with great courage and humor. Born on July 11, 1959, in Piqua, Ohio, Douglas lived a life full of laughter, love, and dedication to those he held dear.
The son of Robert and the late Patricia (Middy) Benning, Douglas was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jeanette (Ault) Benning, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love since their marriage on April 28, 1984. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Nicole (Nick) Gill and Kimberly Benning, who will forever cherish the memories of their father's warmth and humor.
Douglas adored his four granddaughters, Makayla Huffman, Reese and Lane Gill, and Baileigh Green, and took immense pride in being their grandpa. His sister, Diane Manson, also survives him, along with many friends who were touched by his kindness and laughter. He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Benning, and his brothers, Steven and Michael Benning, who he held close in his heart throughout his life.
Following in his father's footsteps, Douglas dedicated many years to the construction industry. As the owner of Benning Construction Building Maintenance, he built not only structures but also lasting relationships with those he worked with. His work was a testament to his skill, hard work, and integrity.
Douglas was a man of many passions. He loved the thrill of fishing, the excitement of cheering for the Cleveland Browns, and the exhilaration of hydroplane racing. As a former owner of the National Modified hydroplane “Nemesis,” he embraced the spirit of adventure and competition. Known for his practical jokes, Douglas had an infectious laugh that could brighten any room. Even during his final days, he continued to spread joy and laughter, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Douglas's life, allowing his family to pay their respects in an intimate setting. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to McLeod Hospice, whose compassionate care and support provided great comfort during Douglas's final days.
The Benning family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team for their exceptional care and dedication. Douglas will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
