With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorsel Allen Harrison, who left this world peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by the love and warmth of his family as he departed, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and cherished memories. Born on October 22, 1942, in the quaint town of Dogfork, West Virginia, Dorsel was a beacon of love and dedication to all who knew him. Dorsel was the beloved son of the late Hobert and Bessie Harrison, who instilled in him the values of hard work and family devotion. He is reunited now with them, along with several of his brothers and sisters, in eternal peace. On May 19, 1962, Dorsel married the love of his life, Charlene, with whom he celebrated an inspiring 64 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family and life filled with laughter and love. Charlene was not just his wife but his confidante and partner in every sense, and they shared a bond that will remain unbroken even in his absence. Dorsel’s legacy lives on through his devoted children: his daughter Regina Casto and her husband Rondus; his sons Gregory and his partner Bridget Divers, and Dwayne and his wife Karen. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Rondus (Cortney) Casto, James (Danielle) Casto, Derek (Paige) Harrison, and Brittani Harrison Hall. His heart swelled with pride for his 13 great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Dylan, James (Jay Jay), Brooke, Remington, and Gracelyn Casto; Carter, Caylee, and Dutton Harrison; and Braylee Hall, as well as his step-grandchildren Mason Mills, Payton Barr, and Zander Sisk. Dorsel began his career at the City of Charleston's Sanitary Board in 1963 at the tender age of 19. With unwavering commitment and diligence, he served the city for 32 years before retiring. His work ethic and dedication to his job were evident to all who worked with him, and he left an indelible mark on his colleagues and community. A man of deep faith, Dorsel was a dedicated member of the Goshen Baptist Church. His favorite place to be, the church was where he found solace and joy, often lifting the spirits of those around him with his singing. His voice carried the warmth of his soul, and he touched many lives with his passion for music and his service to the congregation. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Hospice for their compassionate care and to his caregiver, Marsha, who was more like a daughter to him. Marsha’s unwavering support and kindness were a great comfort to Dorsel and his family, and her presence will always be cherished. Dorsel Allen Harrison’s life was a testament to love, family, and faith. He leaves behind a world that is a little brighter for having been in it, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
