Dorothy Smallwood

Dorothy Smallwood, a beloved matriarch, dedicated evangelist, and cherished member of her community, passed peacefully into eternal rest on July 2, 2026, at the age of 100. Born on December 28, 1925, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Dorothy was a radiant beacon of faith and love throughout her life. She was the devoted daughter of Eliza Jones, whose teachings and values shaped Dorothy into the woman we all came to admire. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Deacon R.T. Smallwood Sr., with whom she shared over 40 years of marriage. Together, they nurtured a family grounded in faith and love, raising their children and grandchildren in a home filled with laughter, prayer, and devotion. Dorothy was predeceased by her cherished daughters, Janice and Cebresta Smallwood, who are now reunited with her in the heavenly realm. Her legacy lives on through her expansive and adoring family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who number 30 and 53, respectively. Dorothy also leaves behind her niece, two daughters, and a host of spiritual children she mentored throughout her life. Her family and friends remember her as an avid prayer warrior, a devoted teacher, and a steadfast believer in Christ. Dorothy's commitment to her faith and community was unwavering. For over 35 years, she was a dedicated member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ. Her involvement with the C.O.G.I.C spanned more than six decades, during which she served on the Evangelist Mothers Board, participated in the Sick and Shut-in Ministry, and offered her gifts as a prayer warrior and mentor. The celebration of Dorothy's life will take place on August 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the West Angeles Church - Family Life Center, located at 3600 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90016. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the members and staff of West Angeles for their unwavering support, as well as to Dorothy's best friend, Sister Irene Shumate, for her steadfast companionship and love. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dorothy's memory to the West Angeles Church of God in Christ, reflecting her lifelong dedication to her faith and community. Dorothy's life was a testament to the power of love and prayer, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
