Dorothy P. Saulsberry Mallory, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away gracefully on June 14, 2026, at UAB Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. She was born on October 19, 1959, in the serene town of Troy, Alabama, to James and Annie Saulsberry. Dorothy's journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and community. She was predeceased by her father James A. Saulsberry and her brother James Otis Saulsberry, but she carried their memories with grace and strength throughout her life. Dorothy's heart was forever intertwined with her beloved husband, Samuel L. Mallory, with whom she shared over 44 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a family full of love and laughter, and Dorothy's nurturing spirit was the cornerstone of their home. Her children, Ashley Mallory and Samuel James Mallory, were the lights of her life, and she took immense pride in being a doting grandmother to Laylah Frazier and Samuel Kash Mallory. A graduate of Charles Henderson High School in 1978, Dorothy furthered her education at Alabama State University and graduated from Wallace Community College.Her passion for learning was evident in her love for reading the Bible and her constant pursuit of knowledge. She was a proud supporter of Alabama State football, and her enthusiasm for the game was infectious.Dorothy worked for for Pike County school system as a teacher aide until landing a position for Pike County Probate office and moved to the Commissioner’s Office until she retired in 2024. Dorothy's culinary skills were revered by all who had the pleasure of tasting her dishes; she had a remarkable ability to bring people together around the dinner table. Her kitchen was a place where love was shared, and memories were made. A devoted member of the Old Mount Zion MBC, Goshen Alabama,Dorothy's faith was her guiding light, and she devotedly served her church community until her illness prevented her from doing so. Her strength and resilience in the face of adversity were a testament to her character. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband Samuel, her children Ashley and Samuel James Mallory, Granddaughter Laylah Frazier and Grandson Samuel Kash Mallory her sister Beverly Saulsberry Cope (Willie Cope), and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Her life was a tapestry woven with love, faith, and dedication. Dorothy's legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the beautiful life she lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Old Mount Zion MBC in her memory. Rest in peace, dear Dorothy. Your light will continue to shine in the lives of all who knew and loved you.
