It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Dorothy Mae Robair Thomas, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Dorothy peacefully left this world on May 26, 2026, at the age of 92 in Jonesboro, Georgia. Her remarkable journey began on November 21, 1933, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana—a city that forever remained dear to her heart.
Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Robair and Emma Pickett, who instilled in her a spirit of resilience and compassion that defined her life. She honored their memory throughout her life, nurturing her family with the same boundless love and dedication. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Leroy Thomas, with whom she shared 62 beautiful years of marriage after they united in matrimony on March 1, 1958, in St. Bernard Parish. Together, they raised three sons, Anthony Dwight Thomas (Doris A Thomas), Bruce Wesley Thomas Sr (Helen E Thomas), and Clay Mitchell Thomas (Kim H Thomas), who were the pride and joy of her life.
Dorothy was a woman of profound faith and service, tirelessly dedicating herself to her community and her parish at St. David Catholic Church. Her acts of kindness were countless, and her unwavering commitment to service will be remembered by all who were touched by her generosity. She was a graduate of Joseph S. Clark Sr High School, and her life was a testament to the values she held dear—faith, family, and friendship.
Dorothy’s legacy is carried forward by her 11 grandchildren: Nashearease Golden Berry, Traverse Golden, Shayne Thomas, Taylor Thomas, Joshua Frederick, Bruce W Thomas Jr (BJ), Brian J Thomas, LaKeasha M Brown, Deshaun C Thomas, Shanika L Thomas, and Courtney Thomas Tobin (Daniel). Her love extended to her 10 great-grandchildren: A'Lyric A Thomas, Raphael E Thomas, Jaden L Fisher, Zoey A Thomas, Jeremiah W Thomas, Jameson Clay Tobin, Norah Grace Delaney Tobin, Mia A Thomas, and Max O Thomas, who will grow up surrounded by stories of her warmth and kindness.
She was predeceased by her siblings John Edgerson Jr. (Ruby), Joseph Robair (Wilhemina), Benjamin Israel Robair (Marie survived by), Violet Robair Green (John), Warren Robair (Louise), Emma Robair Benifield (Alvin), Alvin Robair (Mamie), and Jerry Lee James (Edward), as well as her great-grandson Cameron Wesley Thomas. She is survived by her beloved sister Marie, brother-in-laws Earl Thomas (Gilda) and Joey Michael Thomas (Dianna), and sister-in-law Bernice Hayes (the late Woodie Hayes). Dorothy also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who fondly remember her as a beacon of love and light.
Dorothy's life will be celebrated on June 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Mount Olivet Cemetery and Mausoleum, located at 2050 Caton St, New Orleans, LA 70122. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Jonesboro Center for Nursing and Healing, Affinity Care, SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society, and Mount Olivet Cemetery and Mausoleum for the compassionate care provided to Dorothy.
In the words of her family, Dorothy Mae Robair Thomas will remain "Forever in Our Hearts." Her memory is a blessing to all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.
