April 24, 1937 — June 6, 2026

Dorothy Mae Aldridge Hicks, lovingly known as Dot, was born on April 24, 1937, in Burlington, North Carolina, to James Whitted Aldridge and Corrina Mae Susan Page Aldridge. She peacefully departed this world on June 6, 2026, at home, surrounded by love and comfort, with her devoted daughter by her bedside. Dot was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her life. She grew up in a family filled with love alongside her siblings—Jimmie Ray, Larry Lynn, Mamie Sue, Janice, and Kenneth. Her compassion and boundless generosity were qualities she inherited from her parents and carried forward in her own family. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Arbert Junior Hicks, their beloved daughter Wanda Kay Hicks, and cherished grandson Christopher Wayne Dickens, along with her parents and siblings Jimmie Ray, Larry Lynn, and Mamie Sue. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Dot shared a beautiful life with her husband, Junior. Together, they raised three children and nurtured two grandsons, creating a legacy of love and resilience. Dot's unwavering dedication to her family was the cornerstone of her life. Her surviving family includes her son Eugene Marshall Hicks, daughter Amy Elizabeth Hicks and her partner Lamont Watlington, and grandson Christopher Tyler Roan. She is also survived by her siblings, Janice Smith and husband David, and Kenneth Aldridge and wife Pam, alongside numerous nieces and nephews who adored her dearly. Dot was an active member of the Lakeview Community Church until her health no longer permitted. Her presence was a blessing to the congregation, where she was deeply cherished. Her faith and community spirit were evident in every interaction, as she radiated kindness and love to all. An avid crocheter, Dot found joy and peace in creating beautiful pieces that she shared generously with family and friends. She loved reading, finding solace in the pages of her favorite books, and enjoyed listening to music that brought her closer to the world around her. Dot was a conversationalist at heart, always ready to share a story, lend an ear, or offer words of encouragement. Dot's generosity extended far beyond material gifts; it was embedded in her genuine love for people. She embraced everyone she met with open arms and an open heart, ensuring that they felt valued and loved. Her nurturing spirit and infectious laughter will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. A celebration of Dot's life will take place on June 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Lowe Funeral Home, located at 2205 S Church St, Burlington, NC. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on June 10, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. The family warmly welcomes visits at the daughter's home, 2460 Park Road Ext, Elon, NC, at other times. Dot's legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering kindness. As we say goodbye to a remarkable woman, we are comforted by the countless memories and the profound impact she has left on our lives. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
