Dorothy J Byner

December 26, 1938 — July 30, 2026

Dorothy J Byner, a cherished mother, grandmother, and community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Born on December 26, 1938, in Birmingham, Dorothy was the beloved daughter of Clifford Dever and Blanche Hall. Her life was a testament to her devotion to family, her faith, and her remarkable sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew her. Dorothy dedicated her life to being a homemaker, a role in which she excelled, nurturing and supporting her family with unwavering love and commitment. She was a pillar of strength and a source of endless wisdom and warmth to her children: Deborah E Pressley, Rhonda L Byner-Fields, Barry J Byner (Toinetta), Felicia Bowie (Rickey), and Rozzel D Byner (Lillian). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Patrice “Poochie” Pressley and SaVonta “Poobie” Hill, and an impressive 39 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward her values and spirit. Dorothy was predeceased by her mother, Blanche Hall-Cade; her siblings, Belinda Travis and Will Oliver Hall; her beloved son, Demetrius Byner; and a dear family member known affectionately as Boo Boo. While their loss was profound, Dorothy found solace and strength in her faith and her community at Abyssinia Baptist Church, where she was an active and devoted member. Dorothy's passions extended beyond her family and faith. She found great joy in gardening, nurturing her plants with the same care and attention she gave her family. Her garden was a testament to her patience, dedication, and love of life’s simple pleasures. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Compassus Hospice and to Ebony Dowdell for their compassionate care and support during Dorothy's final days. A service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Rosemont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Dorothy's generous and giving spirit. Dorothy J Byner's life was a beautiful testament to love, laughter, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and kindness, and her memory will be forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
