Dorothy Georgi Barden Evans
June 24, 1934 — June 27, 2026
Dorothy (Dottie) Georgi (Barden) Evans, 92, passed peacefully surrounded by family on June 27, 2026 in Houston, Texas. She was born on June 24, 1934 in Missouri. Her life has been filled with a strong faith which she shared with family. She loved traveling and hosting family gatherings in her home.
She was the daughter of Dr. Frank Barden, and Esther Georgi Barden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chuck, and her sister, Nancy Staehle. Her youngest sister, Margery Reason continues to live in Atlanta. She is survived by her two kids- Michael Evans (son) and Debbie Evans-Rogers (daughter) and son-in-law David, daughter-in-law, Carol Evans, and her 6 grandchildren: Phillip Evans (spouse: Jackie), Beth Evans (spouse: Katie), Lindsey Steigerwald (spouse-Phillip), Megan Trevino (spouse-Powers), Kristen Schoonover (spouse-Gregory II) and David Matthew Rogers (fiancé Sarah). She had the joy of 6 great grandchildren (Joseph, Anthony and Eli Trevino, Gregory III and August Schoonover, and Emma Faith Steigerwald.
Dottie grew up in Kennebunk, Maine and graduated from Kennebunk High School, but attended the University of Missouri (Mizzou) where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She met her husband, Chuck, at Mizzou while decorating for a sorority party.
After her Mizzou graduation, she worked for ATT as a computer programmer. She married Chuck on Sept. 8, 1957 in her Maine family home. After Chuck graduated, they moved to Wichita, Kansas where they both worked for Boeing on the B-52 production line. Dottie worked in the flight test data processing department, but could not fly on the aircraft because she was pregnant with Mike.
After Mike and Debbie were born in Wichita, the family moved around before settling in Kansas City, Mo. where Chuck worked as an electrical engineer for Bendix (later Allied). She was a full-time mom as the kids were growing up, but always remained active in PTA, community activities and volunteering as a zoo docent. She loved Kansas City but also had a love for the beach and ocean. She moved to Houston after Chuck died so she could participate in raising the grandkids. She had many decades of helping the family and nurturing everyone. Her life was full of love and she modeled thinking of others before herself.
Dorothy has always had a zest for life and has been the matriarch of a large family. Her favorite memories are wonderful family gatherings for birthdays, graduations, and holidays. She loved Christmas! And many years Christmas was ushered in with a visit to the Nutcracker market. She has always enjoyed the theatre and ballet and passed this love of the arts to her children and grandchildren. She remained an active volunteer. She was a docent at the Houston zoo and volunteered for many years at Armand Bayou Nature Center, and at Space Center Houston in their educational department. She created wonderful memories of traveling alone with each grandchild to an elder hostel adventure, as well as many trips with family. In recent years she travelled extensively with friends birding and exploring the world.
Her contribution of loving those around her- whether family or friends - was her greatest legacy. Her faith throughout her life was strong and she attended Webster Presbyterian church serving as an elder. She attended many bible studies and was an “active flamingo” with a special group of ladies in the church. She will forever be remembered by her family and so many others with love and every moment of her 92 joyful years have been cherished with her. She will be deeply missed and always kept in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30pm on August 8, 2026 in the Webster Presbyterian Church. She will then be buried in Kansas City, Mo. at Mt. Moriah Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Chuck.
