Born on March 15, 1926, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of John Harrison and Lula Farmer. Her journey through life was marked by resilience, compassion, and an undying dedication to her family and community.
Dorothy's life was a testament to hard work and perseverance. She married the love of her life, Melvin Thomas, on August 31, 1942, in Reno, Nevada. Together, they built a family grounded in love and faith, raising their children Dale, Virginia, John, and Tera with steadfast devotion. Her beloved husband, Melvin, predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy of love that Dorothy carried forward.
Dorothy was a woman of many talents and roles. Her career was as varied and vibrant as her personality. From cooking at Gum Springs School and various restaurants around Greenleaf Lake, Dorothy's hands were never idle. She even plucked chickens at the Muskogee plant and drove a truck in California, hauling potatoes and vegetables with baby Dale by her side. Her work ethic was unmatched, as was her ability to adapt and thrive in any situation.
A passionate gardener, Dorothy found joy in nurturing her flowers and ensuring her yard was always immaculate. Her love for nature was a reflection of her nurturing spirit—a spirit that extended to everyone she met. Known for her generosity and kindness, Dorothy never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was deeply committed to her faith, often reminding others of the eternal promise of Heaven and the perils of Hell. Her spiritual conviction was a guiding light for her family and community.
Dorothy's heart was a vast expanse of love, and her family was its greatest beneficiary. She leaves behind her beloved children, Dale and John Thomas, and daughter Tera Asamen. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Raymond & Janie, Nick & Stephanie, Misty & Zac, Kameko & Colton, Amiko, and Chad & Destiny.
Her great-grandchildren: Wesley, Brandi, Allison, Cody, Wyatt, Peyton, Brady, Jaxon, Jude, Miyako, Kenzo, Isaiah, and Marri.
She had five great-great granddaughters.
All will carry forward her spirit for generations to come.
Preceding her in death, alongside her husband and parents, were her daughter Virginia Thomas, grandson Jimmy Thomas, and daughters-in-law Darlene and Mary Thomas. Though they are no longer present in this world, the bonds of family and love remain unbroken.
