Dorothy Dalton
December 1, 1933 — October 12, 2026
Dorothy Dalton, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on December 1, 1933, in the small town of Mt. Moriah, Missouri, Dorothy was the daughter of Glen and Violet Holloway, who instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion that she carried throughout her life.
Dorothy graduated from Mt. Moriah High School in 1951, where she began to nurture her love for basketball, playing semi-professionally the following year. Her passion for the game remained with her always. She pursued her interest in healthcare by undergoing a year of nurses training in St. Joseph, Missouri, before embarking on her career.
It was at Standard Oil where Dorothy met the love of her life, Everett Dalton. After a year of courtship, they were married on July 31, 1954, by Pastor Gordon Carpenter. Their marriage was a testament to love and commitment, lasting 52 beautiful years until Everett's passing. Together, they built a life in Kansas City, raising two devoted sons, Paul and Mark Dalton.
Dorothy found her calling in nurturing others, working as a teacher's aide at Kansas City Christian High School for nearly a decade. She also contributed her skills to the finance department at St. Joseph Hospital and later found joy serving her community at the Belton Library, a place she dearly loved.
Dorothy's life was enriched by her deep love for her family, especially her four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She shared with them her admiration for the outdoors, imparting her knowledge and love of gardening and flowers. Her home was always filled with laughter and the warmth of family gatherings.
Her kindness and tender compassion were evident to all who knew her. Dorothy was a woman of faith, fiercely loving her family but holding her Savior, Jesus Christ, closest to her heart. Her servant's heart guided her actions, always ready to offer help to those in need.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Luminous Hospice team for their exceptional support and care, and especially to Izetta, Samantha, and Heizel, whose loving assistance made Dorothy's final months at home comfortable and peaceful.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Lee's Summit Bible Church outreach ministry, an organization close to Dorothy's heart.
Dorothy Dalton's legacy is one of love, faith, and compassion—a life well-lived and a life well-loved. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
