February 15, 1949 — October 12, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Cassidy, a beloved member of our community, on October 12, 2026. Dorothy was born on February 15, 1949, in Portland, Maine, to Fred and Catherine Monahan. Her life's journey was filled with love, creativity, and a dedication to her faith. Dorothy was a graduate of Portland Schools, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by learning and exploration. Her career took her from the bustling shoe shops of Maine to the vibrant streets of the French Quarter in New Orleans, where she worked as a bartender. In each role, she brought a warmth and authenticity that endeared her to colleagues and patrons alike. For over 25 years, Dorothy shared her life with her cherished partner, Lionel Roch, who predeceased her. Their love story was one of deep connection and mutual respect, providing a model of partnership to all who knew them. A devoted Jehovah's Witness, Dorothy's faith was a guiding light in her life. She found great joy in sharing her beliefs and supporting her community through her unwavering commitment to her congregation. Dorothy was a woman of many talents and passions. She found solace in painting and expressed herself through the vibrant colors and thoughtful compositions she created. Her love for reading transported her to new worlds, and her green thumb brought her gardens to life, each bloom a testament to her nurturing spirit. Family was at the heart of Dorothy's life. She was the proud mother of her sons, Russell Small, Everett Small, and Dean Libby, and her daughter, Anita Dow. She also shared great love for her son-in-law Michael Dow, her daughter-in-law Yolunder Joyce, her daughter-in-law Sasha Small and her daughter-in-law Mandy Libby. Her legacy extends through her 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit forward. Dorothy's family and friends will remember her as a woman of grace, strength, and kindness. Her gentle presence and infectious smile will be deeply missed but cherished in the memories of those who had the privilege to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorothy's memory to a charity of your choice or an organization close to her heart. As we say goodbye to Dorothy, we hold onto the lessons she taught us about love, resilience, and the beauty of a life well-lived. She will forever remain in our hearts.
