Dorothy Cale

Dorothy Cale, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on July 22, 2026, at the South Hampton Rehabilitation Facility. Her daughter and granddaughter were by her side as she departed this world, concluding a courageous battle following a massive stroke. Born in Dover, Delaware, on August 16, 1938, Dorothy lived a life filled with love, faith, and resilience. Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Alonzo and Sara Elizabeth Cale, who predeceased her along with her brothers, William Harris and Joe Harris; and her sisters, Eva Bostice, Mildred Sudler, Anna Evans, Alberta Scott, Helen Gibson, and Frances Lewis. Her beloved son,Travis Myrks Jr. also preceded her in death. Dorothy's legacy continues through her devoted daughter, Rhonda Lynn Myrks; her treasured grandchildren, Terrence Brown, Tyrone Leshawn Myrks, and Stephanie Frazier; and her adored great-grandchildren, Kanya Brown, Theron Frazier, and Micaiah L Myrks, affectionately known as Ms. Awesomeness.Dorothy held a special place in her heart for her adopted "other" children; Deacon James and Deaconess Linda Lyons, Royce Organ, and her son in love, Darryl Taliafero. Dorothy leaves behind a host of beloved nephews and nieces who will forever hold her memory dear. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Dover, Delaware, she also completed many classes at Central Texas University, Dorothy's career journey was both varied and impactful. She began as working as a bank teller in various banks, also worked as a telephone operator in Germany, served as a correctional officer in Smyrna, Delaware, and later excelled as an administrative assistant with ACAP in Ft. Lee, Virginia. She enjoyed working at AT and T Solutions where she putv her administration skills to use Her dedication to service was further exemplified in her role as a Social Service Assistant in Petersburg, Virginia. Dorothy's life was anchored in her faith, having been baptized and raised at Union Baptist Church in Dover, Delaware. She was an active member, serving on the Nurses Unit and Ushers Board. Over the years, her spiritual journey led her to Calvary Baptist Church in Dover and eventually to Tabernacle Baptist Church and Mr. Olivet Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia, where she remained a faithful attendee until her health declined. Those who knew Dorothy will remember her sharp wit and sassy spirit, qualities that endeared her to many and remained with her even during her time at the nursing facility. Her humor and zest for life gave the staff a delightful challenge and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. A service to honor Dorothy's remarkable life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Union Baptist Church, 883 Lincoln Street, Dover, DE 19904. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the South Hampton Rehabilitation Nursing Facility, Affinity Hospice, and all family and friends who provided unwavering support and love. Dorothy Cale's life was a testament to love, faith, and perseverance. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy of kindness and strength will inspire generations to come.
