Dorothy Brickner Adler

Dorothy "Dori" Brickner Adler, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends. Born on June 30, 1947, in Titusville, Pennsylvania, she was the cherished daughter of Jack and Edie Brickner, who preceded her in death alongside her siblings Laura Ann Brickner, Linda Kunz, and Michael J. Brickner, as well as her niece Jill Brickner Gwaltney. Dori's life was a testament to love, faith, and friendship. She leaves behind her husband of 59 beautiful years, David L. Adler of Richmond, VA. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, faith, and a profound love for each other. Married on April 8th in Shelbyville, KY, Dori and David resided in Frankfort, KY, and Bartlesville, OK, before finding their forever home in Richmond, VA, 45 years ago. Their shared journey included attending many gubernatorial events and becoming "Kentucky Colonels," a testament to their deep ties to Kentucky. Dori's family extends to her brothers Pat Brickner (and his wife Lorrie) and Mark Brickner (and his wife Kathy), her sister Mary Fran Deffily (and her spouse Wayne), and seven nieces and nephews. Dori also leaves behind many friends she considered family, including a special group of lifelong friends, lovingly referred to as "Dori's angels": Laura Anderson, Sheri Polignone, and Kathy Pendleton. Their tireless love and care for Dori during her final months were a great comfort to her family. Her education began at St. Joseph Academy in Titusville, PA, where she graduated in 1965. She went on to attend Morehead State College in Kentucky. Her career took her to the admissions department at Frankfort Hospital, where she forged lifelong friendships. In Richmond, she lovingly cared for children in her home, maintaining relationships with many of them as they grew into adulthood. Dori also worked in a bakery and as a secretary at a construction business. Dori was a woman of many talents and passions. She was known for her love of dance, from teaching the "Stroll" in high school to line dancing with her niece in Frankfort. She was the first to hit the dance floor at weddings and the last to leave. Her love for cooking and hosting was legendary, with St. Patrick's Day and Kentucky Derby Day parties being family favorites. She was a dedicated member of the Church of the Epiphany, where she and David participated in the choir, Marriage Encounter, and sponsored parishioners being confirmed. Her philanthropic spirit was felt by many, as she tirelessly supported causes close to her heart, such as flood relief in McDowell County, WV, and fundraising for breast cancer research in memory of her niece Jill. Whether feeding the sick or celebrating special occasions, Dori's generosity knew no bounds. A service to celebrate Dori’s rich and loving life will be held on October 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Drive, N. Chesterfield, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Epiphany Columbarium or a charity of your choice. Dori's smile could light up any room, and she was a saint on earth who will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.
