Dorothy Baker

Dorothy Baker, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 4, 1923, in Crockett County, TN, Dorothy was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Jettie (Harwell) Heath. Her life was a testament to faith, family, and community. In 1942, Dorothy married the love of her life, James Lawrence Baker. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, children, and love. Their 54-year marriage was a model of devotion until James's passing in 1996. Dorothy and James raised four devoted daughters: Pat (Hunter) Mountjoy of Halls, TN, Kay Wren of Greenfield, TN, Debra (Randall) Davis of Jackson, TN, and Diane Noblin of Halls, TN. Dorothy's legacy continues through her ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, all of whom she adored and cherished deeply. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and two beloved son-in-laws, Charles Wren and John Noblin. She is survived by her sister, Yvonnette Climer of Memphis, TN, formerly of Halls, TN. Dorothy dedicated her life to her family and her community. A devoted homemaker, she also found her spiritual home at South Fork Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and beloved Sunday school teacher for the little children. Her dedication extended to the Women's Ministry Union, and she was a lifelong honorary member and supporter of the Halls Fire Department, earning the affection of the entire department. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like the beauty of hummingbirds and the thrill of travel with her daughters. Even at 98, Dorothy maintained her independence, driving herself and sharing her sharp wit and incredible mind with all who knew her. She was a remarkable soul, a servant at heart, and her presence was a blessing to everyone she met. The family will celebrate Dorothy's extraordinary life with a service on August 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Halls First Baptist Church, located at 102 E Tigrett St. Halls, TN 38040. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Dorothy's honor. Dorothy Baker's life was a radiant reflection of love, faith, and service. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends as they carry her legacy forward with love and gratitude.
