DOROTHY KNIGHT

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Knight, lovingly known to all as Dottie, on September 7, 2026. Born on August 27, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, Dottie graced this world with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering spirit until the very end. Dottie was the cherished daughter of Arcenia Olivia Knight and Ottis Simpson, and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Albert Durant Sr. She was preceded in death by her mother Arcenia, father Ottis, stepfather Albert, her late husband James Blakeny, her life partner of 23 years Angel Rojas, her grandson Edward Dupree Knight, and an infant son. Her legacy of love and resilience lives on through her children: Edward Knight, Dorothy L Knight, and Carresa M Hussey. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren: Dakim Dupree Johnson, Shameik Knight, La-Keem Hunter Knight, La Quanya Ward, Jason Ward, Jasaun Ward, La Vaundia Ward, and Malachi Jackson, and a beloved great-grandmother to two. Dottie's life was further enriched by her siblings, Diane Knight-Liggins, Cynthia Durant-Coleman, Jeannette Durant, and Albert Durant Jr., as well as her first love, Edward Brown Sr. She also leave to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, two daughter in- laws ,Her family was her world, and she was the heart that kept the family strong and united. Educated in Baltimore, Dottie moved to New York City to further her education, earning her GED in 1973. Her career was diverse and rich, including roles as a sales clerk at Alexanders, a high school dietitian with the Board of Education, and a dedicated home health aide. She achieved her CNA license and retired as a certified nurse assistant, a testament to her nurturing spirit and dedication to caring for others. Dottie's life was filled with simple joys: cooking delicious meals, listening to her beloved "oldies but goodies," and ensuring that her family was always taken care of. Her beautiful smile and warm heart left an indelible impression on everyone she met. Dottie had an innate ability to make everyone feel valued and welcome, sharing jokes to lift spirits and offering kindness and generosity without hesitation. A service to celebrate Dottie's life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Unity Funeral Chapels, located at 2352 Eighth Ave, New York, NY 10027. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for all acts of kindness, phone calls, and prayers during this difficult time. Your support and memories of Dottie are cherished and will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dottie's memory to an organization or cause close to her heart.
