It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Doris Robinson, who departed this life on April 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with heart and kidney disease. Born on November 9, 1948, in Hamlet, North Carolina, Doris was the cherished daughter of Edmond and Gladys Robinson Jr., affectionately known as Mr. and Mrs. Stringbean from New Orleans.
Doris was preceded in death by her devoted parents and her dear brothers, Edward Thomas Robinson and Curtis Robinson. She is survived by her loving son, Kenneth Tracey Robinson, and her adored grandchildren, Johnathan Tyler Autry Sr., Dylan Jermaine Autry, Madison Renee Autry, Kennedy Marie Robinson, and London Evon Robinson. Her siblings, Edmond Creola Robinson, Harvey Helen Little, and Gladys Evon Robinson, along with a host of nieces and nephews, hold her memory dearly. Her close friends, Celestine Lindsey and Donna Johnson, were a constant source of companionship and joy throughout her life.
Doris's journey in education began at William Penn Senior High School in High Point, North Carolina, where her love for music flourished as she played the clarinet in the marching band. Completing her secondary education at Lucy B. Addison Senior High School in Roanoke, Virginia, she graduated in 1967. Initially pursuing a major in Nursing at Winston Salem State University, Doris's path took a turn towards General Accounting, a field in which she found her calling. She earned an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Guilford Technical Community College, Jamestown, North Carolina.
Her professional career began in 1967 as a nurse's assistant at Burrell Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, before she moved to High Point, North Carolina, in 1968 to continue in this role at High Point Memorial Hospital. Her passion for numbers led her to LADD Furniture in 1981, where she worked in general accounting for over 15 years. Doris's expertise and leadership qualities later saw her serving as Financial Controller at Lincoln-Gerard USA for three years. In 2000, she embraced a new role as a sales clerk at Belk Department Store, where she dedicated herself for over 17 years, retiring around the age of 67.
Doris's spiritual journey was deeply rooted in her beloved First Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member for over 50 years. Her roles as Church Clerk, Financial Secretary, and Pastors Aide President showcased her unwavering dedication. She also lent her melodious voice to various choirs, including the Joy Bells of HPNC, FEBC Young Adult Choir, Voices of Unity, MLK Community Choir, and the LWBC Women's Community Choir.
Beyond her professional and spiritual commitments, Doris was passionate about mentoring youth, both within and outside the church community, leaving an indelible impact on countless lives. Her love for music and singing brought joy and comfort to those around her. Above all, her grandchildren held the deepest place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Doris's gentle and humble nature, combined with her unwavering resolve, made her a beacon of strength and compassion. Her legacy of music, mentorship, and family will continue to inspire us all.
A service in honor of Doris Robinson’s life will be held on May 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM at First Emmanuel Baptist Church, located at 833 Leonard Ave, High Point, NC, 27260.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers who supported Doris during her kidney dialysis treatments, whose kindness and professionalism provided great comfort during challenging times.
