In Loving Memory

Doris Carmen Litwiller MacClelland
February 5, 1933 — September 15, 2026
Doris, a cherished member of our community and a beacon of kindness and giving, passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on February 5, 1933, to Clarence and Hattie Litwiller, Doris lived a life filled with service, compassion, and dedication to others.
Doris was preceded in death by her loving parents and her brother, Gene Litwiller. She leaves behind her nephews Kevin (Connie) Litwiller, Randy (Kara) Litwiller, Doug Litwiller, great-nieces Rebecca Litwiller and Holly Martinez (Alfonso), and great-nephew Chad Litwiller, who will all remember her as a beloved aunt and a guiding light in their lives.
Her academic journey began at Ashland High School, where she graduated in 1950. Doris went on to earn her nursing degree from Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and furthered her education with a B.A. in nursing and liberal arts from San Francisco State in 1957. Her thirst for knowledge and excellence in her field led her to the University of Indiana, where she obtained an M.S.N. in Nursing Administration and Medical-Surgical Nursing in 1970.
Doris's professional life was marked by distinguished service in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1964, where she served as a staff and charge nurse at various military hospitals, both in the U.S. and abroad. Her journey continued in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1976, where she served as an administrative coordinator in the surgical wing at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, California.
After retiring from her military career, Doris dedicated her life to education, becoming an assistant professor of nursing at Point Loma College in San Diego. Her legacy of supporting future nurses continues through a uni-trust scholarship fund she established at the college to aid nursing students in their educational pursuits.
Doris eventually returned to Southern Oregon, settling in Medford, where she became an active and cherished member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene. Her passion for music and service saw her playing piano at Christmas programs and special events, as well as serving on the church board. Her volunteer work extended to reading programs for youth and piano lessons, embodying her lifelong commitment to nurturing and uplifting those around her.
In her spare time, Doris loved to travel, exploring both the world and her home state of Oregon. She cherished long drives with friends and family and was often accompanied by her beloved poodles, Amos and Andy.
A memorial service to celebrate Doris's extraordinary life will be held on October 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at The New Life Church of the Nazarene, located at 1974 E. McAndrews Rd, Medford, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be directed to the New Life Church of the Nazarene, K Dove, or the JC Humane Society on Table Rock Rd.
