It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Doris Marie Ross, who departed this world on April 19, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on February 15, 1947, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Doris graced the world with her presence and left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Doris was the cherished daughter of the late Corene Etta and Andrew Lee Thomas. She is now reunited with her beloved parents and her siblings Sharon, Darlene, and Archie, whom she dearly missed and spoke of often with fondness and love. Her legacy continues through her devoted children: Brigitta Scott and husband Joey, Danitta Ross-Morton and husband Jason, Anthony Ross Jr, affectionately known as TomTom, Sharlitta Ross, and Brian Ross. Her heart overflowed with pride and joy for her grandchildren, Lamont, Sharif, Rashaad, Jarod (and wife Deshante), Tyree, Javon (and wife Deja), Kayla, Taylor, and India, alongside her great-grandchildren Sharif Jr, Noel, Zuri, Andrian, and Kelsey. Doris also leaves behind a close-knit circle of nieces and nephews, including Sharita, Timmy, Kim, Marcus, Archie Jr, and Melanie, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
In 1968, Doris married the love of her life, Anthony Ross, embarking on a journey filled with love, laughter, and family. Together, they raised their five children, instilling in them the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance. Doris was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love, always putting her family first.
Doris's academic journey began at Chickasha High School and continued at the Oklahoma College of Women, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to further her studies, achieving a Master’s degree and setting the stage for a remarkable career. Doris dedicated 35 years of service to the New York City Department of Education, nurturing young minds and inspiring countless students. She was more than a teacher; she was a mentor and friend, maintaining bonds with former students who were testament to her lasting influence.
Known to all for her compassion and generosity, Doris had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and kindness, where laughter was abundant, and love was unconditional. She believed in the power of community and was always ready to lend a helping hand, her actions reflecting the depth of her character and the purity of her heart.
Doris faced her battle with dementia with the same grace and fortitude that defined her life. She remained a source of strength and comfort for her family, her spirit unyielding even in the face of adversity. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved.
As we say goodbye to a remarkable woman, we celebrate Doris Marie Ross's life—a life filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to others. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A service in her honor will be held at a date to be announced, where family and friends will gather to pay tribute to a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations supporting dementia research, continuing Doris's legacy of helping others.
Rest in peace, Doris. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
