With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doris Katherine Delvin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on April 26, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on February 3, 1941, in the charming town of Waterloo, NY, Doris was the cherished daughter of Edward and Grace Kuney, who predeceased her.
Doris was a woman of grace and kindness, known for her gentle spirit and pleasant demeanor. Her warm smile and welcoming nature touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and dedication, and she will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate to cross her path.
Throughout her life, Doris was a dedicated and hardworking individual. She began her career at the Seneca Army Depot in New York, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Embracing new opportunities, Doris relocated to Lakeland, Florida, where she continued her professional journey with the Lakeland Ledger. After retiring from her role there, she found great fulfillment in volunteering at the First United Methodist Church, where her contributions were invaluable and deeply appreciated.
Doris's passion for life extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was a longstanding member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lakeland Music Club, organizations that reflected her love for community and music. Her joy for life was also evident in her avid enthusiasm for dirt car racing, a pastime she greatly enjoyed, whether attending in person or watching on television.
Family was the cornerstone of Doris's life. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Grace Kuney; her two devoted husbands, Thomas Bigger and Henry Delvin; her four siblings; and her beloved son, Cale. Despite these profound losses, Doris remained a pillar of strength and love for her family. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Denise Davis and Dawn Kachmaryk, who continue to carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion. Her adoring grandchildren, Jacob, Grace, and Sydney, were the light of her life and will forever cherish the memories they created with their grandmother.
Doris's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Her unwavering faith and commitment to service were a beacon of hope and inspiration to those around her. As we bid farewell to Doris, we celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the countless lives she touched.
A memorial service to honor Doris's life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Doris's memory to the Lakeland Music Club, an organization she cherished deeply.
Doris Katherine Delvin will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones and embraced by the everlasting love of her Creator.
