June 5, 1930 — October 3, 2026

Doris June Martinez, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 3, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on June 5, 1930, in Belleville, Illinois, Doris was the loving daughter of Pearl and Henry Luetkemeyer. She was predeceased by her parents, her devoted brothers Tom and Bob Luetkemeyer, and her husband, Danilo Martinez, with whom she shared a beautiful life. Doris met Dan in Belleville, Illinois, where they fell in love while he was stationed at Scott Air Force Base. They married on June 19, 1954, and together they built a loving home and family. Doris is survived by her children: Gregg Martinez and his wife Wenda, Scott Martinez, and Danene Martinez Rice and her husband Tyler. Her legacy continues through her three grandchildren: Dr. Tyson Rice and his wife Brooke, Dr. Spencer Rice and his fiancée Sara, and Jensen Rice, who all brought immense joy to her life. A devoted mother and homemaker, Doris found her greatest joy in caring for her family, while also touching the lives of many beyond her home. Her keen eye for fashion led to an unexpected career when, during a bicycle ride one day, she spotted a “Help Wanted” sign at Lil’s Casual Corner dress shop located next to Monty's Pizza. Her natural sense of style and personable nature quickly endeared her to the owners and customers alike, and she went on to serve as the shop’s manager until the owners retired. Doris later continued her caring work at Peace Memorial’s daycare, where her gentle spirit, and nurturing nature left a lasting impression on the many young children in her care. Doris was a pillar in her community, especially at her church, where she dedicated over 45 years as an usher and volunteered daily at St. John's Thrift Store. Her faith was a guiding force in her life; she facilitated a weekly Bible study and was an enthusiastic volunteer in the church's Vacation Bible Camp, which her daughter led and her grandchildren attended. Active in many organizations, Doris served as the president of the PTA and held various board positions in Strongsville, Ohio. Her commitment to service extended to teaching Sunday school and participating in the Church of Ascension's weekly Bible study. Doris embraced yoga at the age of 40 and shared her love for the practice by teaching classes at a fitness gym, her church, at nursing homes and even at her home. Doris will be remembered for her quick wit, humor, and infectious smile. She was a beacon of kindness, always checking on her elderly neighbors, who cherished her visits and assistance. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone she met, leaving a legacy of love and compassion. A celebration of Doris's life will be held on October 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Church of Ascension, located at 701 Orange Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Church of the Ascension Inc, located in Clearwater, Florida. Doris June Martinez will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
