It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend, Doris Jean Grasty Jones, who departed this life on June 2, 2026, while resting peacefully in her sleep. Born on May 18, 1947, in the close-knit community of Danville, Doris spent her life as a beacon of love and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her.
Doris was the cherished daughter of the late Jimmy Grasty and Gracy Terry Grasty, who instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and kindness. Her life was enriched by the love she shared with her late husband, John Jones, and she now joins him and their dear son, John Wayne Jones, in eternal rest.
Doris's legacy of love continues through her surviving children, Willie, Donald, and Lisa Jones, who inherited her generous spirit and positivity. Her grandchildren will forever remember the joy of her laughter, a sound as unique and comforting as the hugs she was always ready to give. Doris's family circle extended beyond traditional lines, encompassing her very close cousin, Chinetta Jones, who was more like a bodyguard and confidante, her more dependent cousin Joan, and her lifelong friend, Barbara Singleton, with whom she shared countless memories growing up in the Spring Garden community.
A pillar of her community, Doris was a faithful member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church in Java, Virginia. Her commitment to her faith and community was unwavering, and she found great joy in offering comforting words of encouragement to those in need. Her positive attitude and gentle soul were a source of strength for many, and her ability to uplift others was truly remarkable.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown such tremendous love and support during this time. Your outpouring of affection is a testament to the impact Doris had on so many lives. We are comforted by the knowledge that she was deeply loved and will always be remembered fondly.
As we bid farewell to Doris, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever inspire. Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy of love and kindness will continue to guide and encourage us.
May God bless each of you, and may we cherish the memories and lessons Doris left behind. Thank you for honoring her life with your love and support.
