It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Doris, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and cherished friend, who departed this world on September 27, 2026. A native of Mobile, Alabama, Doris graced this world with her presence on August 18, 1933, born to the loving parents Mary Lee Dixon and Bennie Radcliffe.
Doris was a woman of great faith and conviction, a true servant of the Lord. As an active member and church mother of Newbirth Christian Fellowship, she devoted her life to her faith, leading many to Christ with her gentle guidance and unwavering belief. Her compassion and willingness to help others were defining aspects of her character, and she was known for her kind heart and gentle soul.
Throughout her life, Doris wore many hats, from her early employment at the University of Toledo and Toledo Public Schools to her most cherished role as a homemaker. She was an avid cook and baker, renowned for her delicious cakes that brought joy to countless family gatherings and community events.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Faye Dixon and LaQuelle Turner, her brother Zannie Dixon Jr., and her beloved children, Belinda VanLeer, Diane Tangreti, David Person Sr., and Pastor Ronald Person. Despite these profound losses, her memory continues to live on in the hearts of her surviving family members.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her sister Mary Emma Staunton, brother Lawrence Dixon, daughters JoAnn Harvey, Schenelle Miller, Dorcas Person, Shiray Person, and Aishia Rios, and son Jesse Person Jr. and his wife Diane Denise. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Valecia Morehead, Tyra VanLeer, Anthony Person, Cristina Tangreti, Kevin Alexander, Jermaine Jones, Tierra Jones, Robert Scott III, Brandon Scott, David Person Jr., Shekinah Petty, Michael Person, Ashley Person, Amberly Sarne, Tiana Middleton, LaShonda Person, LaTonya Person, Gerald Harvey Jr., Ashantis Person, and Angel Hurns.
A service to honor Doris's life will take place on October 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the House of Day, located on Nebraska Ave. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Orchard Care Facility, Toledo Hospital, and Northwest of Ohio Hospice S. Detroit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, for the compassionate care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, as a way to honor Doris's legacy of kindness and generosity. Doris's spirit will forever be remembered through the lives she touched and the love she shared.
