With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Dorene Monroe, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world at her home on March 7, 2026, at the age of 65. Born in Oakland, California, on September 9, 1960, Dorene lived a life full of vibrancy, love, and unwavering principles. Dorene was the cherished daughter of Stella Guillory and Lawrence Monroe Senior. She was predeceased by her loving parents and her siblings Lorraine Monroe, Jean Monroe, Darlene Monroe, Lawrence Monroe Junior, Darrell Monroe, and Harrell Monroe, as well as her beloved son, Dejuan McDonald. Her family finds solace in knowing that she has reunited with them in eternal peace. Dorene's legacy lives on through her surviving children, David McDonald Jr., Devon McDonald, and Dominique McDonald, each of whom carries her spirit forward with love and pride. She also leaves behind her sister, Debra Monroe, and three treasured grandchildren, who were the lights of her life. Dorene's educational journey began at Berkeley High School, where she graduated in 1977. She furthered her education at a junior college, setting a fine example of determination and achievement for her family. Her professional life was marked by her dedication as an analyst for the City of Berkeley, where her colleagues respected her for her meticulous work and her unwavering commitment to justice and integrity. Known for her loving heart, Dorene was also a woman of strong convictions. She was never afraid to express her thoughts, often using the most colorful and memorable quotes to make her point. Dorene believed in the fundamental principles of right and wrong and held steadfast to these values throughout her life. Her honesty and integrity were matched by her boundless compassion, though she was affectionately known as a worrywart by those closest to her. Dorene loved life's simple pleasures - reading books, shopping, coloring, and visiting the casino. She found joy in family celebrations and cherished the moments spent traveling with friends and loved ones. Her stubborn yet warm nature created a legacy of love that will forever be remembered. A service to honor and celebrate Dorene's life will be held on March 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, located at 662 S 52nd St, Richmond, CA. Family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched are invited to join in remembering this remarkable woman. In the words of Dorene herself, "Life is a journey, not a destination." As we bid her farewell, we hold onto the wisdom and love she shared with us, grateful for the journey we shared with her. May she rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
