In Loving Memory

Doreen Ann Dusterhoft
January 9, 1937 — July 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Doreen Ann Dusterhoft, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on July 16, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on January 9, 1937, in Grand Forks, ND, Doreen was the cherished daughter of the late John Henry Schumacher and Dorothy Margaret Stein. Her journey through life was marked by love, devotion, and a warmth that touched all who knew her.
Doreen is predeceased by her loving parents, John and Dorothy Schumacher, her brother Bill Schumacher, sister Eileen Knepper, and her dear son Alan Torgerson. The family also grieves the loss of her grandsons, Chad Smith and Luke Torgerson.
Doreen’s legacy of love continues through her surviving family. She is lovingly remembered by her children: son David Torgerson and his wife Lori, daughter Debra Gutirez and her husband John, son Richard Torgerson and his wife Lorri, and daughter Lori Lively and her husband Jon Kercher. Doreen also leaves behind her devoted brother, Larry Schumacher, and his wife Carol.
A proud and loving grandmother, Doreen was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride into her life. Beyond her immediate family, Doreen's heart and home were always open, and she embraced many extended family members as her own.
Doreen's professional journey was as flavorful as the meals she lovingly prepared as the head chef for the North Dakota School for the Blind, where she worked with dedication for many years. Her culinary skills not only nourished the body but also warmed the hearts of those she served.
Outside of her professional life, Doreen was an active member of the Eagles Club in East Grand Forks, MN, where she formed lasting friendships and shared many happy moments. Her favorite pastimes included cheering passionately as her son, grandsons, and great-grandsons took to the hockey rink, sewing intricate patterns that mirrored the tapestry of her life, casting a line in tranquil waters while fishing, and baking delectable treats that brought smiles to all.
In honor of Doreen’s love for her community and the joy she found in helping others, the family kindly suggests that memorial contributions be made to an organization close to her heart, or to a charity of your choice.
As we bid farewell to Doreen, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will forever be ingrained in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
