Doral Jean Edmondson Matlock

January 27, 1939 — August 7, 2026

Doral Jean Edmondson, a beacon of caring and kindness, passed away on August 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her daughters. Born on January 27, 1939, in Glendale, California, Doral was the cherished daughter of Dorothy May Hepburn Edmondson and Arthur Allan Edmondson. Her life was a tapestry woven with dedication to family, education, and community service. Doral’s journey began in the halls of San Fernando High School, where she graduated in 1957. She pursued her passion for teaching at Chico State College, earning a degree in elementary education in 1961. Her career as an educator spanned five decades, during which she inspired countless young minds in both public and private schools. Many will fondly remember her at North Hills Christian School in Vallejo and Mary Farmar Elementary School in the Benicia Unified School District, both in Solano County, California. In 1961, Doral married Donald Wayne Matlock, with whom she shared many years before their separation in 1987. She found companionship again with Thomas P. Dion, whom she married in June 2004. Sadly, Tom preceded her in death earlier this year. Doral’s community involvement extended beyond the classroom to her membership in Masonic organizations, including Rainbow Girls, Job’s Daughters, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her faith was a guiding light, and she was also an active member in the ministries of neighborhood churches in Chico, Benicia, Vallejo, Walnut Creek, California, and in Bonanza, Oregon when the family relocated to that area in the mid-1980s. A talented seamstress, Doral found joy in quilting with friends and shared her love for gardening, traveling, and engaging in lively conversations. Her passion for child literacy was unwavering, and she continued to champion reading and social skills long after retiring. Doral was predeceased by her parents, her beloved oldest daughter Donna Melaine Matlock, and her husband, Tom. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Lawrence Pastorino; her brother, William Edmondson; her daughters, Diana Matlock and Dayna Hankins, along with her son-in-law Roger Hankins; and her treasured granddaughter, Elizabeth Hankins. Doral was known for her kind heart, cheerful demeanor, and unwavering dedication to others. Her days were filled with seeking moments of light, despite personal struggles, and she leaves behind a legacy of service, caring, and laughter. In honor of Doral’s life and her commitment to literacy, donations may be made to the Klamath County Library Foundation in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Diana and Dayna extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rogue River Place and Klamath Hospice for their compassionate care during Doral’s final days. Her family takes solace in the countless lives she touched and pray for the enduring impact of her testimony for Christ Jesus.
