December 25, 1943 — April 20, 2026

With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Dora Elsa Barbosa, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, on April 20, 2026. Dora passed away surrounded by the warmth and love of her family, including her devoted husband, Jose Barbosa, and their cherished children, in the comfort of her home, marking the end of a beautiful journey that began on December 25, 1943, in Bogota, Colombia. Dora was born to Eduardo Silva and Gladys Barbosa, who predeceased her, but whose spirits and values she carried forth throughout her life. From a young age, she demonstrated a passion for learning and a vibrant zest for life, which she channeled into her studies at Folsom University in Bogota, where she earned a degree in business. On November 29, 1962, Dora married the love of her life, Jose Barbosa, and together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, living first in Bogota and later in New York. Their union was blessed with three remarkable children—William, Edgar, and Liliana—who were the pride and joy of Dora's life. She nurtured her family with immense love and care, balancing her role as a homemaker with a career at the Sears Corporation and various other endeavors to support her family. Dora's boundless creativity and generosity were evident in her hobbies, as she lovingly crafted clothes and blankets for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. These handmade treasures were more than just items; they were a testament to the love and warmth she infused into every stitch. Her legacy is carried on by her loving husband, Jose, her children William, Edgar, and Liliana, six adoring grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, along with a wide network of extended family and close friends who cherished her deeply. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt message of gratitude: "Thank you for your assistance to those that helped me through my passing and to all my beautiful family, friends, and people that made my life a wonderful time." Dora's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and kindness. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to her family and community will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Dora's life will be held in the coming days, where stories of her warmth, compassion, and laughter will be shared by those she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to a charity close to Dora's heart, continuing her legacy of generosity and care. May Dora Elsa Barbosa rest in peace, forever surrounded by the love she so freely gave.
