Donnie Byron Russell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donnie Byron Russell, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on September 25, 2026. Born on November 25, 1960, in West Memphis, Arkansas, Donnie was the cherished son of Don and Bobbie Russell. Donnie's journey began in the small town of West Memphis, where he grew up surrounded by the love of his parents and sister, Margaret Russell. He graduated from Greene County Tech School District in 1960, marking the beginning of a lifelong connection with the school. His dedication to Greene County Tech was unparalleled, as he returned years later as the maintenance director. Donnie was known for his unwavering loyalty to the GCT Eagles, truly embodying the spirit of green and gold. On December 18, 1982, Donnie married the love of his life, Brenda. Their union was blessed with the adoption of their beloved daughter, Cassie, on September 24, 1988. Together, they forged a family bound by love, laughter, and cherished memories. Donnie was a devoted father to Cassie and took immense pride in being a doting grandfather to Clay Henry Johnson, with whom he shared many memorable adventures. Donnie's professional life was a testament to his hard work and dedication. He began his career as a welder, founding Russell Ironworks, and later excelled in the manufacturing industry. Yet, it was his role at Greene County Tech that brought him the most fulfillment, as he cared for the school and its community with passion and pride. A man of deep faith, Donnie was an active member of Westview Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and committee member, dedicating his time to uplifting the congregation and spreading kindness wherever he went. Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Donnie found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, often fishing or sharing stories. The memories created with his grandson, Clay Henry, were especially dear to him. Donnie was predeceased by his father, Don Russell; his beloved son, Joshua Russell; and his in-laws, Lacy and Eleanor Foresythe. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his devoted wife, Brenda; daughter, Cassie (Chris) Johnson; grandson, Clay Henry Johnson; mother, Bobbie Russell; sister, Margaret Russell; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and great-nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward. A service to celebrate Donnie's life will be held on September 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at West View Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Greene County Tech Educational Foundation, West View Baptist Church, or the American Cancer Society, organizations close to Donnie's heart. Donnie Byron Russell's legacy is one of love, dedication, and unwavering faith. His spirit will forever be a guiding light for those who were fortunate to know him.
