Born on December 30, 1938, in the quaint town of Hannibal, Missouri, Donna lived a life imbued with compassion, wisdom, and an unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Donna was the daughter of Leland and Ada Mae Morrison, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family. She was predeceased by her loving parents and her husband, Dan Barger, with whom she shared 55 beautiful years of marriage. Their union, which began on August 13, 1961, was a testament to enduring love and partnership, creating a foundation of warmth and affection that would support their family through all of life's seasons. A proud graduate of Hannibal High School, Donna continued her education at Hannibal-LaGrange University, earning a bachelor's degree in teaching. Her career was not merely a profession but a calling—one that allowed her to touch countless lives through her dedication to nurturing young minds. Donna's classrooms were not just spaces for learning but places where students felt seen, heard, and valued. Donna is survived by her two devoted daughters, Deonne Williams (Rory) and Danna Chessher (Justice), who carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. In them, her spirit continues to shine brightly, a testament to the love and guidance she provided throughout their lives. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and residents of Compass Rose and the compassionate caregivers at Gulfside Hospice. Their unwavering support and attentive care brought comfort and peace to Donna in her final days, for which her family is forever thankful. A graveside service to honor Donna’s remarkable life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the joy and love she brought into the world. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an educational charity of your choice, in honor of Donna's lifelong dedication to teaching and learning.
