Donald R. Kidwiler II
October 11, 1946 — May 20, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Donald R. Kidwiler II, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on May 20, 2026, at the age of 79. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, Don departed from his home, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication.
Born on October 11, 1946, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to the late Donald R. and June E. Alexander Kidwiler, Don was a beacon of joy and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was predeceased by his cherished grandparents, parents, his father and mother-in-law, John and Joan Rech, and a dear family friend, Kareem Demian.
Don graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1964, and soon after, he answered the call to serve his country with honor and bravery in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Stationed on the USS Rigel AF58, he dedicated four years to his nation, an experience that shaped his life and values. Following his honorable discharge, Don spent several years in Florida before returning to his cherished hometown of Parkersburg, WV.
On July 2, 1993, Don married the love of his life, Karen Rech, at Highland Ridge Community Church in Lowell, Ohio. Together, they built a life filled with love and happiness, celebrating nearly 33 years of marriage. Don was a devoted husband and a proud father to his daughter, Natalie Gray, and son, Nathan Russell, and an adoring grandfather to Makenzie (Nick) Ingraham, Zack Russell, and Sadie Gray. He also cherished his honorary granddaughter, Leah Stalnaker (Wrenlee), and his beloved great-grandsons, Ezra and Grayson Ingraham.
Don was a man of many passions. His love for Corvettes was legendary, owning two and frequently attending car shows with enthusiasm. Alongside his great friends, Bud Schenkel and Stan Price, he spent countless hours working on Bud's '69 Nova, affectionately named 'Back in the Day'. Together with their loving wives, they embarked on adventures to drag strips across Ohio and beyond, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Above all, Don's greatest joy was his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was their loudest cheerleader, attending every birthday party, dance recital, sporting event, graduation, and even Makenzie's wedding. Don's infectious smile and playful debates with referees and umpires will be fondly remembered by all who witnessed his vibrant spirit.
A proud member of the American Legion, Highland Ridge Community Church, and the Home Builders Association of Parkersburg, Don's commitment to his community and faith was evident in all he did.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his daughter, Natalie Gray; his son, Nathan Russell; his grandchildren, Makenzie (Nick) Ingraham, Zack Russell, and Sadie Gray; his honorary granddaughter, Leah Stalnaker (Wrenlee); his great-grandsons, Ezra and Grayson Ingraham; his brother, Jeff Kidwiler; his brother-in-law, Mike Rech; and his nephews, Steven Rech and Jesse Rech, along with their families.
A celebration of Don's life will be held on May 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, 408 Front Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Devola Volunteer Fire Company or Marietta Home Health and Hospice, An Amedisys Partner, in Don's honor.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to all those who cared for Don with love and respect, including the Devola VFC, Amedisys Hospice, Right to Home, Alison Atkinson PA-C, VA, and Strecker Cancer Center. Special thanks to Rebecca, Cody, Renea, Tiffany, Kim, Amanda, Amber, Timber, Willie, Diane Fulton, and Letha Rech for their unwavering support.
