Donald Otto Schwark

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Donald Otto Schwark, who peacefully departed this world on July 23, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on April 8, 1932, in Berlin, Wisconsin, Donald was a beloved son of Otto H. Schwark and Ethel Hayes (Miller). He was surrounded by the love of his family in his final days, bravely battling bladder cancer, and fulfilling his wish to be at home in his own bed. Donald was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Charlotte Carol Ann (née Guitzkow), whom he married on April 17, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa. Their union spanned 64 beautiful years, until Charlotte's passing. Together, they built a life grounded in love, family, and shared adventures, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Micheal Schwark (Audrey), Mark Schwark, Suzanne Morovits (Gerald), and Kimberly Bern, who were his pride and joy. His siblings, Lorraine Koepke, Robert Schwark, and Diane Bauer (Don), were cherished companions throughout his life. Donald's spirit lives on in his six grandchildren, Nicholas Schwark, Courtney Laundrie, Stephanie, Seth Warren, Cory Morovits, and Keegan Monken, as well as his eight great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and laughter. Donald was predeceased by his parents, Otto Schwark and Ethel Miller, his wife Charlotte, and siblings Betty Bradly, Donna Mae Besaw, and Daniel Schwark. Their memories remain dear to his surviving family. Donald's professional life was marked by dedication and resilience. He spent many years driving a gravel truck for Rien Schultz and Daul and later for Jim O’Brien Trucking, where he worked until an illness led to his retirement in 1994. His work ethic and commitment were admired by all who knew him. A man of simple pleasures, Donald found joy in camping, fishing, and gardening. He cherished spending time with his family, playing euchre, bingo, and visiting casinos. His later years at Taylor Ridge Apartments in Cottage Grove were filled with camaraderie , especially as he worked on puzzles with friends. Donald's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Bristol Hospice, his nurse Lexie, and CNA Samatha for their compassionate care. A special thank you goes to his daughter Kim, whose strength and dedication provided comfort during his final days. The Taylor Ridge community also held a special place in Donald’s heart, and the family is deeply appreciative of the support and friendship he received there. In honor of Donald's life and his caring spirit, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization close to his heart. Donald Otto Schwark's legacy is one of love, resilience, and a life filled with cherished moments. His presence will be missed, but his spirit will forever guide his family and friends. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who have gone before him.
