It is with profound sadness and yet a heart full of cherished memories that we announce the passing of Donald Moore Springer, who departed this Earth on October 28, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on March 26, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Sieger and Mary Springer, Don was the proud first-born of a Dutch father and an English mother, a heritage he embraced throughout his life. Don's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an insatiable curiosity for learning. He was a devoted husband to Karen McKean, whom he met during his senior year of college. Their love story began with a proposal in Parley's Canyon and culminated in a blessed union on March 15, 1963, in the LDS Logan, Utah Temple. They shared 63 wonderful years together, filled with laughter, love, and the joy of raising a beautiful family. A man of remarkable intellect, Don graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, later earning a BS in Business Management and Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1964, followed by an MBA in 1967. His thirst for knowledge led him to obtain a PhD from Colorado State University in Economics and Information Technology in 1974. His career was as varied as his interests, beginning as an Electrical Technician during his undergraduate years and later working at US Steel while earning his master's degree. Don's passion for education was evident as he taught at numerous universities, including Texas Tech, Colorado State, University of Portland, Portland State, Washington State, and Utah Valley University. A veteran at heart, Don joined the Air National Guard at 23, serving with dedication as an Electrical Technician in Denver, Colorado. His military service was marked by honor and the pursuit of further education. A devoted servant of his faith, Don served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Netherlands Amsterdam Mission from 1955 to 1957, proudly learning Dutch and funding his mission through hard work. His commitment to his faith continued throughout his life, as he lovingly served wherever he was needed, especially cherishing the role of teaching children and youth. Don's life was a kaleidoscope of interests, from spending time with his beloved family and grandchildren to indulging in hobbies such as singing, woodworking, and gardening. He was a man who loved the simple pleasures—grilling, fishing, hunting, and camping, always with a joyful spirit. An enthusiast of BYU and U of U football, Rush Limbaugh, and FOX News, Don also had a sweet tooth for mint chocolate chip ice cream and brownies. Known for his charismatic personality, Don stopped to chat with everyone he met, loved telling stories, and sharing the love he had for the Savior. He also had a knack for finding good deals. He had a unique habit of giving everything a grade, a testament to his teaching profession and a keen attention to detail. Don leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom, survived by his cherished wife Karen; children Sherryl, Tanya (Scott), Rebecca (Brett), Scott (Misty), and Kevin (Jen); grandchildren Devin, Stephen, Eric, Sadie, Tyler, Garrett, Emily, Riley, Nicole, Morgan, Jeremy, Jason, Aubrey, Kristin, Dalyn, Ellie, Layton, Kayson, Branson, and Sophie; and great-grandchildren Anna, Roman, Lily, Rylee, Callahan, and Levi. He is also survived by his siblings Melvin and Barbara. Preceding him in death were his parents Sieger and Mary, brother Raymond, and son-in-law Bryan (Sherryl's husband). A service to celebrate Don's life will be held on November 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 650 E 3200 N, Lehi, UT. There will be a viewing from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and helping others, may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
