In Loving Memory

Donald Knowles
November 5, 1946 — June 15, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Donald Knowles, who departed this world peacefully at his home on June 15, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on November 5, 1946, in Benton Harbor, Donald was a beacon of strength, compassion, and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Donald was the beloved son of Harry and Josephine Knowles, who predeceased him, along with his dear sister, Janet Perkins. Raised in a home filled with love and laughter, he carried those same values forward into his own family. Donald was a man of deep integrity, whose life was a testament to the kindness and generosity he extended to others.
Throughout his life, Donald cherished family above all else. He is survived by his loving grandchildren: Polly Posley of Mishawaka, Indiana; Jeremiah Long of Niles, Michigan; Sherel Horton of Cairo, Illinois; and Jerry Long Jr. of Wyoming. His legacy continues through them, as well as through his five grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy for him.
Donald spent his years cultivating a life rich in friendships and community spirit. Known for his storytelling and gentle humor, he often regaled family and friends with tales of a life filled with adventures, both big and small. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel valued and heard, a gift that will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.
In his later years, Donald found solace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Whether tending to his garden, enjoying a quiet afternoon by the lakeside, or sharing a meal with loved ones, he lived with a profound appreciation for the beauty in every moment. His home was always open, a haven for those seeking comfort and company.
Though our hearts are heavy with the loss of such a cherished soul, we find comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind. Donald's legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering faith in the goodness of people. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we honor Donald's remarkable life, we invite family and friends to join us in celebrating his memory. A memorial service will be held at a later date, where we will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears in remembrance of a truly extraordinary man.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in Donald's name, to continue his legacy of giving and caring for others.
Rest in peace, dear Donald. Your light will forever illuminate our lives.
