In Loving Memory of Donald Martin Bublitz
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Donald Martin Bublitz, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Donald left this world on May 6, 2026, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with lung cancer and pneumonia. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and dedication.
Donald was born on August 4, 1941, in the quaint town of Ackerville, Wisconsin, to Frederick Bublitz and Mary Krenzelok. His early years in Ackerville were marked by a close-knit community and the beginning of lifelong friendships. Donald graduated from Slinger High School in 1959, carrying forward a spirit of curiosity and determination that would characterize his future endeavors.
In 1961, Donald answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force. Over the next eight years, he displayed unwavering dedication and bravery, serving two tours—one in Vietnam and another in Korea. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was recognized as a certified civil engineer, bringing precision and skill to his responsibilities. Donald’s military service was a testament to his character, reflecting his commitment to duty, honor, and country.
On June 23, 1962, Donald married the love of his life, Gloria Jean Knapp. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning 63 beautiful years. Together, they created a home filled with laughter and warmth, nurturing four children: Michael Bublitz (Chio), Becky Opper (Mike), Matthew Bublitz (Pei-Ru), and their late daughter, Judith Ann Anderson. Donald and Gloria’s lives were rich with family gatherings, sporting events, and shared adventures, creating memories that will be cherished by generations to come.
Donald’s family was his greatest joy. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandfather to six, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. He was a guiding light, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. His legacy of kindness and integrity lives on in each of their hearts.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife Gloria, his children, his sister Shirley Doerr (Jim), and a host of nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Mary, his brother Robert Bublitz, and his daughter, Judith Ann Anderson. His family finds solace in knowing he is now reunited with those he dearly loved.
Throughout his life, Donald exhibited a profound commitment to his community and those around him. His genuine warmth, steadfast loyalty, and gentle humor made him a beloved friend to many. He leaves a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we celebrate Donald’s incredible life, we remember his unwavering spirit, his dedication to family and country, and his ability to find joy in the simple moments. He taught us the importance of resilience, compassion, and love. While he will be deeply missed, his spirit will forever be a guiding force in our lives.
A memorial service will be held to honor Donald’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a veterans’ charity of your choice, in memory of Donald’s service and commitment to his fellow servicemen and women.
Rest in peace, dear Donald. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts, and your memory will be cherished for all time.
