Born on June 22, 1948, in the vibrant and beautiful Jamaica, West Indies, Donald's journey was one of resilience, dedication, and love—a life celebrated by all who had the privilege to know him. Donald was the cherished son of Gladis and Madison Bruce, who have preceded him in death, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that Donald carried forward with grace and strength. Though his life was unexpectedly cut short by a heart attack, his spirit and legacy live on in the hearts of his beloved family and friends. He is survived by his devoted partner and wife of 22 years, Donna McNeil, who was the love of his life and his constant companion. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. His pride and joy were his children: Tyquan Walker, James Baldwin, Dawn McNeil-Bruce, Desiree McNeil-Bruce, Trevor Bruce, Michael Bruce, Howard Bruce, Dennis Bruce, Norris Bruce, Sonia Bruce, and Jacqueline Bruce. Donald's devotion to his family was unparalleled; he was a father who loved deeply and unconditionally. Donald's journey in education began in his homeland, where he excelled in his early school years. His quest for knowledge led him to the United States on a college visa, where he pursued higher education with relentless determination. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from New York University and continued his academic pursuits at CUNY Graduate Center, where he obtained a Master’s degree. His thirst for knowledge culminated in a Doctorate from Yeshiva University, a testament to his unwavering dedication to learning and teaching. For eight years, Donald was a revered professor at Yeshiva University, where he imparted his wisdom and passion for mathematics to countless students. His teaching career also took him to Meger Evers College and York College, where he was known not only for his expertise but also for his ability to inspire and mentor the next generation. Beyond academia, Donald was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed engaging in debatable news programs, where his sharp intellect and thoughtful perspectives were always on display. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others made every conversation with him a memorable one. A service to honor Donald's life will be held on June 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 111-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11433. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable man whose legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness will forever be cherished. In this time of mourning, we remember Donald Madison Taylor Bruce not just for his accomplishments, but for the love he gave and the lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul that will forever be missed.
