Donald M. Rimkus

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Donald M. Rimkus, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left this world on March 5, 2026, at the age of 90. Donald passed peacefully at his home in the embrace of his family, following a sudden bout with pneumonia. His life, filled with love, dedication, and unwavering strength, will be celebrated and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on October 9, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Donald was the beloved son of Michael and Mary Rimkus. From an early age, he demonstrated a remarkable tenacity and intelligence, which would guide him throughout his life. Donald pursued his passion for engineering at the General Motors Institute University, where he graduated with a degree in engineering—a testament to his diligence and commitment to hard work. Donald proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bayfield, where he exhibited the same steadfastness and leadership that defined his character. After his honorable service, he embarked on a successful career in mechanical engineering, working with a prominent metal manufacturer before transitioning to the United States Postal Service. There, he served as a director for the Bulk Mail System, where his organizational skills and dedication left a lasting impact. In 1959, Donald married the love of his life, Theresa Rimkus, with whom he shared over six decades of love, partnership, and adventure. Together, they built a nurturing home filled with warmth and laughter, raising four wonderful children: Michele Hansen, Lisa Richardson, Michael Rimkus, and Susan Rimkus. Donald's legacy is further enriched by his eight grandchildren, Zachary Richardson, Jacob Richardson, Nicholas Richardson, Amanda Volgardsen, Levi Schnitger, Natalie Jaeger, Chayne Rimkus and Holly Higins and five great-grandchildren, Jordan Richardson, Clementine Richardson, Jasper Foo-Richardson and Leo Richardson who will forever hold dear the joy and wisdom he imparted. Donald was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He found immense joy in traveling and family vacations, creating countless cherished memories. An avid NFL football fan, Donald eagerly anticipated the fall and winter seasons, when he could enjoy the games with his family. Known for his unwavering principles and gentle spirit, Donald was a pillar of strength for those around him, embodying a life built on hard work, kindness, and dedication. A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Donald M. Rimkus will be held on April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Catholic Church. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are warmly invited to attend and share in remembering a remarkable man who leaves behind an indelible legacy of love and strength. The Rimkus family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered support and condolences during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting the generosity and compassion he showed throughout his life. Donald M.
