Donald Lee Johnson
September 26, 1934 — June 6, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Lee Johnson on June 6, 2026, at the age of 91. Surrounded by the warmth and love of his cherished family, he departed this world as he lived in it—embraced by love and devotion. Born on September 26, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio, to Owen Johnson and Edith Merl Mingus Johnson, Donald's journey was marked by faith, family, and unwavering service.
Donald was a man who wore many hats throughout his life, each with dignity and grace. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from July 1957 to 1959, stationed in Munich, Germany, where he found joy and thrill in driving tanks. Upon returning home, he pursued training as a meat cutter in Wilmington, California. Yet, it was not just his professional life that defined him, but his boundless love for his family and community.
On August 15, 1959, Donald married the love of his life, Marjorie Daryl Anderson, in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that spanned nearly 67 years. Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, finding immense joy in the company and accomplishments of his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie, and his children: Leticia and John Ravenberg, Michael Johnson and Jill Kennedy, Timothy Johnson, Christina and Michael Gumbiner, and Jeffery and Melyssa Johnson. His legacy also lives on in his grandchildren: Brett and Lisa Ravenberg, Leah Ravenberg, Kaccee and Pat Cox, Kylie and Edward Reyes, Taylor Johnson and Conner Christenson, Makenzie and Janathan Strong, Ellie Guthrie-Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Paris Johnson, Silas Gumbiner, Lucas Gumbiner, and Stella Johnson, along with 17 loving great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Harold and Richard Johnson, and his grandson, Zachary Lee Ravenberg.
Donald and Marjorie dedicated their lives to service, embarking on three missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their journeys led them to Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, Cranbrook, BC, Canada, and the Institute of Religion in Tallahassee, Florida. Donald found immense fulfillment in his service as a temple worker from 1985 until 2021, and his faith was a guiding light in every aspect of his life.
A man of many interests, Donald's love for fishing, woodworking, building, remodeling, and cooking was evident to all who knew him. His passion for sports, especially college football and the memorable Katy Tiger Football 2003 Championship game, was only surpassed by his devotion to his family. His favorite color was orange, a testament to his vibrant personality. And, of course, his fondness for the classic TV show Gunsmoke was legendary—friends and family knew better than to call during his cherished viewing hours.
Donald was a man of faith and service, but he was also known for his wit, kindness, and playful spirit. He was ornery yet tender-hearted, stubborn yet loving, a character full of spice and warmth. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and faithfulness that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
A celebration of Donald's life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1928 Drexel Drive, Katy, TX 77493. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice in honor of Donald's generous spirit.
As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, let us remember the joy and love Donald brought into the world, and strive to carry forward his legacy of service, faith, and family.
