Donald Keith Martrain

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for his life that we announce the passing of Donald Keith Martrain, who departed this world peacefully in his sleep on August 15, 2026, enveloped in the love of his family, particularly his devoted son, Jonathon. Born on May 11, 1953, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Donald's life was a testament to quiet strength, dedication to family, and a passion for service. Donald was the beloved son of the late Louis John Martrain and Pauline Lucia Musso Martrain, who predeceased him and undoubtedly welcomed him into the next life with open arms. He leaves behind his cherished wife of nearly 47 years, Jo Ann (Bergeron/Jackson) Martrain, with whom he shared a beautiful journey that began when they reconnected at a friend's funeral. United in their love for adventure, Donald and Jo Ann delighted in boat riding, fishing, camping, and hiking, often accompanied by dear friends Cary and Prudy Bennett. Graduating from Redemptorist High School in 1971, Donald's entrepreneurial spirit led him and his father to open Aqua Marine in Denham Springs, a marine business that would thrive for over four decades. Known for his warm demeanor and dedication, Donald took immense pride in serving the public and building lasting relationships within the community. His passion for restoring vintage vehicles, including a prized 1959 Chevrolet Apache and a challenging 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, reflected his love for craftsmanship and quality time spent with his son Jonathon. Donald was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for more than 40 years, a testament to his steadfast faith and commitment to community. His gentle nature, sweet smile, and love for reading, cooking, and family gatherings left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He is survived by his son Jonathon Louis Martrain and his wife Leigh Anne, his brother Greg Martrain and his wife Lucinda, and his brother Louis John Martrain, Jr (Chip) and his wife Melanie. Donald's legacy of love and kindness lives on through his six grandchildren: Lainee and Logan Martrain; Abigail Rhyse Jackson; and Kate, Hadley, and Parker Leonard. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Amera Senior Living, Southern Grace Hospice, and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassionate support during Donald's journey with dementia. Their dedication provided immense comfort and peace of mind during challenging times. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Donald's memory to support dementia research or a charity of your choice, honoring his legacy of care and service. Donald Keith Martrain will be profoundly missed but his spirit and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
