August 14, 1945 — May 14, 2026

It is with profound sadness and gentle remembrance that we announce the passing of Donald Henry Calvez, affectionately known as Donnie, who departed this world on May 14, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on August 14, 1945, in the tranquil town of Banquette, Texas, Donnie's life was a tapestry woven with love, hard work, and an enduring commitment to family and community. Donnie was the cherished son of Emil and Annie Calvez, and he was welcomed into a large and loving family. Though he now joins his parents and his dearly missed siblings Luis, Alton, Margie, Novileen, Betty Jane, and Christine in eternal rest, his spirit remains a guiding light for those he leaves behind. In 1967, Donnie married the love of his life, Charlene Taylor, and together they built a beautiful life defined by mutual respect, unwavering support, and shared joys. Their union was blessed with three devoted children: Rhonda, who with her husband James Pawlik brought the delight of grandchildren Justin, Jacob (Chloe), Joshua, and Kyleigh into Donnie's life; and sons Russell (Misty) and Randal, who continued to enrich the family lineage. An alumnus of Auga Dulce High School, Donnie's thirst for knowledge and skill led him to a fulfilling 35-year career as a wire line operator with Otis Engineering, Henning Wireline, and Fesco. His dedication to his profession was matched only by his passion for the land he called home. Whether tending to his cattle, caring for chickens, or even attempting to raise quail, Donnie found solace and satisfaction in working outdoors. His tractor was a loyal companion as he shredded pastures and tilled the soil, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and a deep respect for nature. While Donnie may not have been blessed with great-grandchildren, the love and adoration of his five grandchildren were more than enough to fill his heart with pride and joy. He was a beloved brother to Larry (Judy), Tommy (Cheryl), Gladys Schrodter, and Carolyn (Charles) Coffman, and an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory and the lessons he imparted. Donnie's life was a testament to courage and tenacity, as he faced multiple illnesses with grace and fortitude. His example of strength in adversity remains an inspiration to all who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that Donnie's legacy lives on in the fields he nurtured, the family he adored, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. A celebration of Donnie's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor the remarkable man who graced our lives with his presence. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting Donnie's spirit of giving and community support. As we say farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, we hold dearly the memories of a life well-lived. Donnie Henry Calvez will be remembered with love and gratitude, forever in our hearts.
