May 11, 1941 — May 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Donald Haupt, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on May 19, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on May 11, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, Don was the cherished son of Herbert and Edna Haupt. Don spent his early years in Detroit, where he developed a lifelong passion for baseball, cheering fervently for the Detroit Tigers. This love for the game followed him throughout his life, and upon moving to New Jersey, he also became an enthusiastic supporter of the New York Yankees. In recent years, Don embraced his new home in Connecticut and became an avid fan of UCONN basketball. In 1971, Don married the love of his life, Beverly Martha, with whom he shared a beautiful partnership until her passing. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Amy and Jerry, in New Jersey. Don's dedication to his family was unwavering, and he took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather. His favorite moments were spent with his family, playing games, watching baseball, and attending countless music lessons, recitals, concerts, and sports events featuring his beloved grandchildren. Professionally, Don was a dedicated and respected buyer for Bunzl, USA in New Jersey until his retirement in 2004. His work ethic and integrity were admired by colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his professional life, Don was deeply committed to his faith and community. As an active member of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in East Brunswick, NJ, for over 40 years, he generously dedicated his time and talents as a financial secretary and church volunteer. His contributions were a testament to his steadfast faith and desire to serve others. In his later years, Don found companionship and camaraderie at Brookdale (now Discovery) in Farmington, CT. Here, he was known for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. Don's family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Brookdale/Discovery, UCONN Health Center, and the McLean Hospice Team for their compassionate and attentive care, which allowed Don to live his final years to the fullest. Don leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. He is survived by his children, Amy (Scott) Baumer and Jerry (Joanna) Haupt; his brother Kenneth (Linda) Haupt; five adored grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close. A service to honor and celebrate Don's life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 39 Prospect Street, New Hartford, CT 06057. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Hartford, ensuring that Don's spirit of generosity and faith continues to touch lives. Donald Haupt will be remembered for his unwavering love, his dedication to family and community, and the joy he brought into the lives of those who knew him. His memory will forever be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
