Donald Goocey

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Goocey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us unexpectedly on May 17, 2026, in the comfort of his home. Born on September 5, 1958, in the close-knit community of Beattyville, Kentucky, Don was a beacon of warmth and kindness, embodying a life that enriched all who had the privilege of knowing him. Don was the cherished son of Howard and Kathleen Goocey, who preceded him in death, along with his brother, Richard, and his son, Nick. Despite these profound losses, Don's spirit remained resilient, continually offering love and support to those around him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Lynne, who stood by his side through every triumph and trial. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Brenton and the late Nick, instilling in them values of compassion and integrity. Brenton, along with his partner Melissa, carries forward Don's legacy, along with Don’s six treasured grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. Don's journey was one of passion and dedication. A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, he earned a bachelor's degree in nursing, a testament to his caring nature and desire to help others. His career spanned roles as a dedicated nurse and an accomplished medical salesman, where he touched countless lives with his professionalism and empathy. Known for having a huge heart, Don never met a stranger, showing love and kindness to all he encountered. His warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone he met, making him a beloved figure in both his professional and personal life. Beyond his professional pursuits, Don was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid woodworker, crafting pieces that were as beautiful as they were functional. Music was another of his great loves; he was a talented drummer who played in the church band while his children were growing up, filling the sanctuary with rhythms that inspired and uplifted. Don is survived by a large and loving family, including his siblings Fred, Loretta, Brenda, Ronnie, Betty, Evelyn, Gary, Gloria, Regina, and Linda. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he in theirs. The bonds he shared with his family were a testament to his nurturing spirit and unwavering love. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Don's life will be held on June 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, located at 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45432. In this time of mourning, we find solace in the words of Ecclesiastes 3:1-2: "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted."
