It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Donald George Colburn, who left us peacefully on March 20, 2026, at the age of 82. Donald was at his home in Plymouth, Vermont, surrounded by his loving family, as he finally laid down his arms in his courageous 22-year battle with cancer. Born on June 27, 1943, in the charming town of Richford, Vermont, Donald was the cherished son of Stanley and Alice Colburn. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his dear brothers, Charley and Richard Colburn. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bobbie Lynn Colburn, and his son Patrick Colburn, along with Patrick's fiancé, Jennifer Keith. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Jennifer, Hayden, Ian, and Spencer, his brother, John Colburn, and his sisters, Colleen Nailor, Virginia Davis, and Barbie Latimer. His family was the center of his world and the source of his greatest pride. Donald served his country with honor, joining the U.S. Army and rising to the rank of Sergeant. He bravely completed three tours in Vietnam, earning three Bronze Stars for his valor. His service took him to 32 foreign countries and 48 U.S. states, broadening his horizons and deepening his love for the land he called home. After his military service, he continued to serve his community as a police officer in Bristol, New Hampshire, and in various roles across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Virginia, specializing in inventory and logistics. A man of many passions, Donald was an avid outdoorsman who found peace in the embrace of nature. He delighted in camping, hunting, and fishing, often found along the riverbanks with his grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter. His handcrafted Christmas wreaths brought joy to many, a testament to his creativity and generosity. A devoted fan of baseball, he rarely missed a Red Sox game, finding camaraderie in the shared love of the sport. Donald was known for his quick wit and comical sarcasm, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, where he shared stories and camaraderie with fellow veterans. A service to honor Donald's life will be held on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, located at 11 School St., Plymouth, New Hampshire. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors and nurses at the White River Junction VA Hospital, as well as the compassionate in-home nurses, for their unwavering care and support over the years. Donald George Colburn will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and unfailing love for his family and friends. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. As we say goodbye, we hold tight to the memories and the legacy of a life well-lived. His devotion and unconditional love will continue to be felt by many for generations to come. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Donald's memory to the VA hospital or to a charity of your choice.
